We tried this restaurant on a Sunday. It's a really nice spot with friendly staff. We ordered the jerk chicken, a combo plate with curry goat and island fried chicken and oxtail. The jerk is moist and tender with a little heat. I like spicy but my stomach doesn't and I was fine trying it. The goat fell off the bone. The Island fried chicken was very tasty. I've never had Island fried chicken before and it was a pleasant surprise. The sauce tasted like a tomato and pineapple mixture but I truly can't describe it. It was good! The oxtail were tender as well. I have had better but these were still good. They are not afraid to give you sauce like some others. I had no trouble smothering my peas and rice.I also had a slice of the pineapple coconut cake. I wasn't a fan. The icing was too sweet for my comfort and I think the cake had almond extract which I am not a fan of. The cake itself was moist. It would take me days to bring my glucose levels back to normal after eating the huge slice they give. You can sit inside or outside and they do sell alcoholic beverages as well. I think they should have some music playing to boost the atmosphere. All in all, I could see this as my go to Jamaican cuisine spot for now.
The best Jamaican food in Richmond!Cons: small parking lot and wait time, the food really is worth the wait read on!!Pros: The oxtails are so delicious! The Jerk chicken seasoned very well. Plantains not overly sweet just perfect! Coco bread melts in your mouth! Limeade made fresh, I could drink it by the gallon. This was the best place to have a Juneteenth Meal!!
This was exactly what we needed! I have been craving Jamaican food for months so my husband and I decided to try M&F Jamaican Restaurant and I am glad we did. We ordered the Combo Plate with curry goat and jerk chicken, cabbage only option. I also got a side of fried ripe plantains. The goat was so tender and delicious! The jerk chicken was juicy and had a great flavor with plenty of sauce. The cabbage was perfectly cooked and had good buttery flavor. I’m not forgetting the plantains - they were melt-in-your-mouth delicious! This was enough food for both of us to split and feel full.I saw other reviews complaining about bones, so I included a picture to show the few bones that were in the chicken and goat. Keeping the meat on the bone gives goat and chicken more flavor, so if you don’t find bones in your goat and chicken it will probably not taste as rich and delicious as this food.
Hey I love this place drove in on a Sunday they were open my food came out on time taste delicious and most important the restaurant was super clean bathroom clean. I just love that little spot. Will be back.❤❤🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
So I love to be supportive of black businesses but I’m gonna be honest. The food looks good but taste and cost don’t complement the look. I bought a jerk chicken curry goat mix for $20 and in my opinion the taste isn’t matching the cost . The jerk chicken (wish it had more of a jerk flavor and more spicy) was just okay and the curry goat was not good . The curry goat was tough , so much so that some of the pieces of meat I could not eat. The cabbage was crunchy, which I liked . The restaurant itself was clean and inviting, as if to encourage one to dine in. The cashier was pleasant . I was encouraged by the cashier to call in my order as some foods sell fast , so fyi for anyone who may need that info .
The wings were cheap in price but slightly overcooked and very small. This a black owned restaurant I decided to try out. It wasn't my bad or good. Just average. May give them another chance
They went from being a good place to eat to just another place that don't care what they serve, the Jerk chicken was very dry and hard, half the meat was trash, I showed it to the lady and instead of replacing it she told me the grill dried out the meat.
Waste of 16 dollars. You can tell they just slapped some sweet jerk sauce on the chicken, definitely didn’t seem marinated and seasoned. Would not go back.
Had to wait a little longer than expected but overall the food was delicious! ?? Maria and the staff were awesome! Definitely one of my top picks for Jamaican food in the city of Richmond.
So I ordered the oxtails and riceUnfortunately this was not the best oxtails I’ve ever had plus it costs $18As a matter of fact the meat was not tender, it was swimming in some kind of sauce full of oilThe rice and beans weren’t bad however the poor cabbage that may have been good was also covered with oil2 stars because the restaurant is nice but I noticed that it was empty which I thought odd based on its proximity to apartments and Hull Street which is a busy road
