After auditing my credit card statement, I noticed that the server took it upon herself to increase the tip I left. Even though I left a good tip, when I looked through my bank statement I was charged several dollars higher than what is reflected on my receipt. This is an extremely disingenuous way of running a business, and I’d highly recommend eating elsewhere.
Asombrosa! This is probably my new favorite Mexican Joint! If you follow me at all you know I am do not like a breaded Chile Relleno and there has only been 1 place in Richmond that does it. BAM! I found another, but then they knocked it up a knotch, you can pick a beef, cheese or chicken one.. WHAT?! I never even knew they even had those options...so yeah pretty stoked about it. Our waitress even recognized me as a regular from the other place, once she said something I realized she used to wait on my at the old place. All the food was really good. My daughter got carnitas and I pick a little bit, very moist and tasty. I got a beef Chile Relleno and it was fantástico. Not a very big place. 4-5 booths and a small bar to sit at. Great Service, pretty quick food and very flavorful. Would highly recommend.
Pretty typical Mexican restaurant. Good margaritas and prompt service.
Horrible. Wife and I both didn't finish our burritos. I usually don't write reviews but it was just... bad. Used to like this place, but I agree with the comments here - those days are behind us. I saw the negative reviews and thought to myself, "nah - I've had this before". They got the order wrong (chicken came instead of beef), but that was OK with us - I figured anything would be tasty. Honestly, didn't care about that part. BUT - the burrito was 90% rice - and buried under a slob sour cream and warm, tired lettuce strands. The poor chicken pieces inside were few, far between, dry and peppery (kinda rubbery). Salsa was nearly tomato water. You get to a certain point in your life where you just don't want to eat bad food, we had to throw it out - I hope they turn it around. The guac was OK.
Service was lovely, drink was delicious (and cheap), and the food was all great aside from the salsa being a bit thin.
We walked into this place because all the other places were closed and the first thing all of us say is, “This smells delicious ?.” The waitress says to sit wherever, and after we sit we get a basket of chips and salsa. The chips were warm!!! The food was also delicious, I got the bowl and it was so good. The waitress was so nice and friendly, the thing I regret though is not getting her name. But otherwise that restaurant is the place to go.
I should have known something was up when I called in to make the order and it was not the same girl I was used to hearing from every other time I've been here. I used to love this place but it seems they've come under new ownership.I ordered the Pollo Grande which is just Arroz con Pollo with onions and green peppers. They gave me two flavorless whole grilled chicken cutlets. This meal comes with three small tortillas with which you're meant to make tacos. I'm not sure what they expected me to do with two 3x5x1 inch whole cutlets. (I mean, I sliced them up myself, but come on.). The refried beans were watery and I wouldn't be surprised if the rice came from a box of Zatarain's. It was also about 30% more expensive than it used to be.This place used to be a hidden gem but now I wouldn't recommend it unless you really wanted Mexicanish food and you were already outside the door.
We found this place while exploring Carytown. Its a cute little spot, bar was decorated with lights, salsa and chips were good! Great service and good cook! I got the carnitas platter it was delicious. My bf got three tacos and two extras they were all good. I’m glad we found this place and will go back whenever we visit.
Carnitas taco was super dry! Salsa watered down, horrible. Refried beans also just as watery. Disgusting. Chori pollo not great.
I don't normally give bad reviews, but my last experience here was soooo disappointing as this used to be one of my favorite Mexican spots and my partner and I were both regulars. They got new owners and literally ruined the place. Not even close to the old Jalapenos(RIP). Their menu is new, more expensive, but that's expected these days with food prices and not my main problem. As soon as we sat down we got our salsa, which was soooo gross. Tasted like ketchup, even adding our own hot sauce in it still made it taste disgusting. Not to mention the queso we got was like water...so runny. Jalapenos is KNOWN for their burritos, and I was beyond disappointed in mine. Usually their burritos are covered in queso, but this had barely any on it! Was just a tortilla covered in romaine lettuce... so gross. Very disappointed and I hope they get the old Jalapenos back because this was yuck.
