One of my fav coffee spots in RVA. The atmosphere, service, coffee, and pastries are excellent. You pay for what you get. This is definitely a must when living or traveling through Richmond.
Ironclad is a cool unique coffee house. There is a lot of cool seating. Couches, small tables on a loft inside. There is also a lot of outdoor seating. I had an iced chai it was very good. The customer service was great. I really liked the main entrance the couches and the piano were a nice touch. I'm not sure if you're allowed to play the piano but if you are that would be even cooler.
Great place to have a coffee. Don’t believe the Karens who say otherwise
Delicious coffee, meh matcha latte. I'd suggest running the matcha through a sieve before whisking with bamboo brush and perhaps springing for a better quality matcha (it appeared to be culinary grade vs ceremonial grade)But who am I to dog a coffee house on their matcha? Their coffee was delicious and well leaded.
I've been going here for about two years now. Some of the most delicious lattes I've had the pleasure of spending $9 on. The employee turnover rate is incredible. There's multiple new people each time I come. Sometimes my drink is weak, or it's not sweet. This time. This time there's a horrible aftertaste. Almost like meat?!i?:( I don't get flavoring because I adore the taste of plain coffee. I won't be back till the dude in the suit and the baristas that made my drink with urgent care are back.It was a to go order. I don't have time to circle back and give the same person a chance to leave another horrid taste in my mouth. All criticism is constructive. Stop focusing on constructing and expanding and focus on perfecting each drop you produce, like how it used to be. Maybe, give your baristas a raise so someone other than a college kid can work there.
This was my first time at Ironclad. I heard great things about it and I’ve been meaning to check it out for a few months now. My first impression wasn’t the greatest; customer service could be better. When I arrived, I walked towards the bar and waited a couple of minutes to make an order. There were 2 baristas working. One of them saw me but didn’t acknowledge me. So I figured I was probably in the wrong place and, although it hurt me not being properly welcomed to the coffee shop, I walked towards the other corner of the bar. A couple more minutes passed and still hadn’t been acknowledged, so I walked back where I was to see that same barista on her phone. I said: “excuse me, where do I order?”. She politely stopped texting and replied: “over there, at the register”. I thanked her and went to the register that I hadn’t noticed at first because it is at the back of the bar. I wait a couple more minutes at the register and nothing. 2 more customers arrived. Now it was 3 of us in the line. 1 more person arrived and no orders were taken. Then, finally, the other barista, came over and took our orders. I ordered a Somerset Brunch Pot Pie and a capuccino. They were quick to make the order. In less than 5 minutes my food was served. I wouldn’t order that brunch pot pie again but I liked the coffee. All in all, I might come back in the future to give this place another shot. They have a nice atmosphere and their customer service is probably way better than this, otherwise it wouldn’t be as recommended. I think I just got unlucky.
I would like to start with a compliment. Food was good and the place has lovely interior, renovation from an old firehouse. But that is where the compliments end. I walked in there and there were approximately 4 people in line and it took according to the owner that watch on his cameras (after I had sent him an email) about 8 min. It felt like 15 or so (I said to him 30 min.). Not to mention, It was creepy that he watches everything from his perch overlooking the floor. When I told him about my experience I was badgered and told I was "I'm sorry you did not enjoy your experience, but grossly exaggerating the facts won't help anyone." So I replied, "You must be the overload on his throne that did not help while the people waited. I see you don't address the warm food. And the long wait for coffee after the meal was served. "I do understand when he said that the are "training" a new employee" but training is not sitting there and watching but empower/assist the new hire. In fact, the new hire did get our order wrong, go figure. IronClad replied "what was inaccurate about the order?". I replied "We ordered 2 pies, cinnamon roll, one tea, one latte with no foam and a shot of espresso. The shot was in the latte. And apparently we never got the cinnamon roll cuz the "new" girl did not ring it up as per the guy yelled across the restaurant. That was the one special thing my friend wanted. That whole thing made me feel uncomfortable. So thank you for making my stay in Richmond a memorable one.." IronClad replied "Anyone who exaggerates a wait time to that degree is simply not a reasonable person -- so there's no use in trying to reason with you. I am liberal with full refunds when I can sense someone has a legitimate complaint and is willing to be reasonable. That's not the case here, so no refund is warranted. Again -- we look forward to you enjoying anywhere but here on your next visit to Richmond." Me: "I did not ask for a refund ur majesty. I was just informing you about our experience. If you have the need to badger your customers from your perch, your entitled to if your the owner (not sure if u are). Maybe u should call Gordon Ramsey's 24 hours to hell and back. I see that money motivates you. You can keep the $35 or so dollars (enjoy), that must be the "Kings" tax. Good luck to you, ur "Royal highness" By reading the reviews (after the fact, lol). Mr. Ryan likes to badger the people that leave unfavorable feedback. Lets see what his rebuttal is...
What a delightful coffee cafe to stumble upon! I had The Hygge which was a smoked coffee - almost like performance art with the smoking chamber. The entire cafe was bright and happy, and very festively decorated for the season. Staff was delightful and helpful. Can't wait to come back!
What an awesome little cafe, both for the vibe and the quality of the espresso. If I’m not mistaken this appears to be an old firehouse converted into a really cool space. Lots of detail to admire, and the espresso was up to snuff. Viscous, chocolately and a nice crema. No soy or skim today which was fine. Whole milk latte was solid. Bravo!
The staff is always friendly here and their specialty drinks are pretty fancy. Their drip coffee is delicious too. This time, I got the sweet potato cappuccino and it was good but not worth the price. Wish there were more seating! The ambiance is wonderful here!
