I've been here twice, and both times were great! I have no experience with how it is when it's busier, but both times I went in were with a friend on a weekday at around lunchtime or later, and it was almost completely empty. The servers are friendly and accomodating and the food here is amazing from what I've had so far. I especially like the crispy lemon chicken.
I don't give stars very often, but this time I will. Seafood can be very difficult to cook. I got the seafood combo consisting of lobster, shrimp, crab, scallops. A combo like that usually has something over cooked or under cooked. Not from Hunan East. The vegetables were spot on, too. It couldn't have been better. The young lady who took my order was very friendly as well. A+
I have to admit, we weren't fans. We decided to try Hunan East because it's closer than our regular Chinese restaurant, Yum Yum Good on Patterson (0.3 miles vs 1.5, or 1 stop light vs 2). However, they don't have vegetarian egg rolls and the spring rolls are tiny. It was also much more expensive than our regular place at $11.25 for fried rice vs. $7.95. The food was fine, the order fulfilled quickly, staff pleasant enough, but unless our regular place is closed, I don't see us returning here.
Really, really excellent Chinese food. I’ve been getting take out here for a couple of years. It’s always consistent, always delicious. It’s the small things that differentiate a good Chinese restaurant from a bad one. For instance, Hunan East gives attention to even the side of fried rice that comes with your meal….adding white onion, egg and scallions…small details that add a huge boost of flavor and texture to an often boring side.Great people, great food.
We LOVE this place! We eat here at least monthly and have enjoyed it every time. The food is great, the prices are very reasonable, and the service is quick. We tried the General Tso’s chicken tonight and it was delicious. Could not recommend this place any more!
Nicest people, always good food and the orders are always complete and right. Cannot go wrong ordering from Hunan East!!
Update 1/18/22 Be careful if you get delivery. The driver will add their own tip on top of the delivery charge after you sign (note different ink).Check your credit card statement against your receipts!They offered to refund the four dollars.2 Years Ago - Come here for the Friday Buffet. The food is very good.
Be careful with delivery orders. There is a built in delivery fee. The driver added a four dollar tip to the credit card for themselves on top of the delivery fee without authorization. The restaurant did offer to refund the four dollars, calling it a "misunderstanding". Yeah. Make sure to check your receipt against your credit card statement!
Quick service and the food is great, very flavorful and nice portions per item. Worth the trip and the price. I go here at least twice a month and more depending on what I have a taste for. Give them a try, you may find a new favorite for Chinese food...
I come up from south of the river just to order here. food is always fresh! everyone is so nice! 10 out of 5 stars for the best food in rva!
