Top experience.Granted, I miss the moody atmosphere of the old spot, but the fresh decor comes with some of the freshest fish I've had in Richmond. The platter meals are generous and varied, with each piece more buttery and satisfying than the last. Their spicy tuna roll has no right tasting as good as it does. Great spot for a date with friendly service and the bonus of Carytown people watching outside.
Great sushi! Also, I highly recommend the pork katsu bowl! Service is also great :)
This lovely little restaurant sits right at the beginning of carytown, the end closest to the fan in Richmond , Va. My partner and I loved the atmosphere and it was nice and comfortable despite it being around 20 degrees outside. The space is a little small and there only is space for one party to wait inside the restaurant and that is at the small bar they have. I'm pretty sure they had to decrease the amount of people they allow dining in because of covid.I started with a delicious warm seafood soup that actually had all types of seafood in it like shrimp and fish for $5! (Not common) Next I ordered the New York rolls which had salmon , avocado, and cucumber and 6 came per order for $5 and they were amazing! For my main meal I ordered the thick noodles with beef and it was very flavorful and delicious. My partner ordered the chicken hibachi (couldn't get a pic because she dove right in) and that was even more delicious and amazing. I swear it got better with every bite! They perfected blending all the ingredients. Staff was great, only one server around the time we went but she did amazing tending to us. I absolutely will come back and recommend to friends! Oh for it being in carytown the prices are awesome and not expensive at all! A place 2 doors down had a normal Topo Chico for $8. Carytown can be crazy with their prices sometimes. No way will I ever pay that for a simple drink with no alcohol. My reasoning behind giving 4 stars and not 5 stars is that there were many items on the menu I had zero idea what they were and I wasn't about to bother the server with a million questions. So pictures to aid customer on some of the not so common plates would've helped. other than that, this place is great!
My boyfriend and I went here last night for dinner and I wanted to give a special review to our waitress. She was the only waitress in the restaurant and managed a packed place along with take-out orders. She was super friendly, answered our questions, and accommodated my food allergies. All on top of this she looked like she was expecting very soon- I wanted to give her my upmost appreciation for being on her feet waiting on people with the grace she did. This is a cozy place with really good sushi that I’d recommend to anyone!
Fresh sushi of truly trenendous quality. A small, quiet oasis in the heart of Carytown's bustle. Friendly and skillful service, even at peak times.Any one of these would be a fine feather in a restaurant's cap. Carytown sushi has all 3 and more! I have never had a bite to eat here that was not magnificent, and never has the service been anything less than exemplary. Now, it is always important to note cost. You will pay for the higher quality of ingredients and service, make no mistake. Borne properly in mind, though, this is no impediment because the value far exceeds the cost. These folks are as deeply commited to serving their customers to the fullest as they are to quality. If you have a love of sushi and good service...If you appreciate finely-crafted cocktails and even finer ingredients...If you want a way to treat yourself to the good life the way it was meant to be enjoyed...Carytown Sushi is the place for you!
Visited for the first time tonight and it was EXCELLENT! Small but atmosphere was great. Service was friendly and wonderful and food was DELICIOUS!!! We split Steak Hibachi, Carytown Roll, Virginia Roll and Richmond Roll. All fresh and so so good!
This experience was quite disappointing. We were a group of two, one ordered 3 sushi rolls and the other ordered chicken teriyaki. The teriyaki is served on a sizzling plate and came out maybe 15 minutes after placing our order. I was told that the sushi would be right behind it. My food wasn't served until about 20 minutes after my friend received his hot plate. After complaining, the waitress said "see the problem is that one person makes the sushi and another makes the teriyaki chicken...". Apparently, timing orders from multiple cooks is a problem in the restaurant industry that they haven't quite mastered. A very important part of enjoying my dine out experience is sharing that time with my company. I was unable to do that because my friend finished 75% of his food before mine arrived. No consolation was provided outside of the lame excuse about timing orders. The decor is nice though. I will stick to Osaka and Akida for my Richmond sushi restaurants.
Good sushi in friendly relaxed atmosphere. Great neighborhood.
Food is great, atmosphere is amazing and all but the service needs some work/extra staffing.. After getting seated I waited patiently as the phone rang and other tables were sat. (Keep in mind there were only four tables taken) 20 minutes later I still hadn’t had my drink order taken and a table that came in almost 10 minutes after me was already getting their appetizer roll served.. so needless to say I left but I’d love to come back again in the future just this is my second rough encounter with time management issues and waiting substantial amounts of time to be served here.
I have been going to Cary Town Sushi since I started college. I had my first date here. And I brought my wife here many times over. It is one of the best sushi restaurants in all of Richmond. It is always on top of my list of sushi restaurants. It is also where I first tried sushi many years ago. Can't recommend this place enough.
