Look. The burrito is incredible. So many flavors, particularly the delicious meat. Here's how you get the optimal experience:1) order ahead2) grab your food and walk up the street to Jefferson Park3) find a bench overlooking the city4) enjoy.
From a Chef point of view MY CUBAN ( HOUSE SPEC VERSION OF COURSE)SLAMMING , I will be getting food there again for sure. ?????????? Devoured my Chicken Cuban. Didn't even get a picture .
I got a half rack of ribs and an Alamo Cuban. The ribs were a little tough but overall pretty decent. Not much smoky flavor and kind of dry, but the bbq sauce was good.Nice sweetness and I ate it all.Better than buzz n neds...But in will continue to quest for Virginia's best BBQ.
Great dog friendly place to eat! Everyone was super friendly and the food was delicious. Atmosphere was very hipster chic, but cutely done. Be aware all seating is outdoor.Unlike many who boast "Texas BBQ" this place actually delivers. The brisket was juicy, and the sausage was amazing. For the sides:Mac n cheese is great, it has a subtle heat from the jalapeno.Collard greens are a good way to add some veggies. Nothing amazing, but I never think they are. So I'm a bad judge. The candied yams are also amazing.
The sausage was phenomenal!! Everything else was great too, but do yourself a favor and get some of the sausage. They were also wonderful with our two dogs who devoured the chicken they prepped for em!
So disappointing how downhill this place has gone. Loads of liquid smoke on dry bbq, chewy brisket, soupy potato salad, and dry mac and cheese now :( such a disappointment because I used to love this place
I lived in Richmond for a few years and was introduced to this place. I then introduced my husband during a visit after I’d moved to Maryland. To this day we drive a few hours to get Alamo when the craving hits. There’s nowhere like this place anywhere else on the east coast. It’s AMAZING. I have only ever ordered the train wreck with brisket. It’s ????
Really disappointed. Paid 28$ for a “platter” of food the guy on the phone said was 21$. If you pay that much for the food, it needs to be a lot, or very gourmet. This was neither. Was still hungry after eating this extremely average BBQ. Would never go back. For this price could’ve gotten a full rack of ribs, and end up settling with maybe 6 oz of food instead in the platter. Awful deal. Don’t understand how this place can survive like this. Don’t waste your money. There’s better bbq anywhere else.
Oh Alamo, how much I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE you. But the food is nothing like it was a year or even 2 years ago, and not in a good way. The brisket and the fish now are more like beef jerky texture, very dry and tough. I ended up chopping up the brisket to put into the cowboy beans to rehydrate it. The cowboy beans are also not as flavorful, lacking spice and depth. Let me be clear, the food is not terrible AT ALL. It simply is okay and fine to eat BUT it is not the same. What happened???
I used to love this place and it's still decent. I got the Cuban and it tasted more like a pickle and onion sandwich. I opened the bun to put the sauce on and there was maybe a tablespoon of chicken. I would've liked to taste the meat.
