OLD SCHOOL ESPRESSOYou read that right! With places all over converting to a single origin, light roasted espresso, and pour-overs that taste like strawberry jam this place shines a light of uniqueness! "Everyone is so different they are all the same"I ordered a small latte (priced very aggressively at $3 even) and a breakfast bagel and couldn't have been happier. The espresso was prepared skilfully and tasted like some of the stuff I remember from the early 2000s: Bold, robust, chocolate, maybe a bit of leather, and sweet whole milk. I've been drinking so much light stuff (which admittedly I really enjoy) I forgot where espresso in the US started. The bagel sandwich was awesome, and the sauce they used was legendary. I couldn't have asked for a better sandwich.I will say, for a day of working at a cafe, the seating did leave a bit to be desired. There were a few spots to perch but I'm really tall, so the table/booth combo didn't have the best ergonomics. I will also say... This won't stop me from coming here again to do a day out of the office.Between flavor, drink quality, vibe, pricing, and a Barista that ACTUALLY TALKS TO CUSTOMERS! Skip the 'Bucks and become a regular at this amazing espresso-themed watering hole.I absolutely love this place.
This is honestly one of the best coffee shops I’ve been to. The atmosphere is comfy and all the staff is always so lovely and willing to work with any coffee order you may have. They have rotating local artists they feature inside, it’s one of my favorite features! Their breakfast burritos are my favorite meal to have in the mornings! The Coffee Shoppe is a must try!
This is such a cute little coffee shop. I had a few days to spend here and Norfolk and went here for my morning cup of coffee. Let me tell you...! There were so many different drinks to choose from. I just let The Man Bun Barista do his thing and it was delicious! When I'm back in the Norfolk area I'll definitely be making my way back to this place!
Yum. Barista Allen is great. I had a chai tea and he added chocolate, almond and coconut to it. My husband had a General’s Bowl which fit his diet.
I visit almost every morning, the coffee and breakfast is amazing. It is such a friendly, neighborly vibe here. All of the employees are awesome. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed!
The Coffee Shoppe is the exclamation point of historic Portsmouth! Family owned and operated, it's much more than coffee. Lots of tasty and healthy selections for breakfast or lunch. I'll put their specialty drinks against any big name franchise. If you're in the area and only have time for one stop before you punch-in on the clock, please consider The Coffee Shoppe! The outside seating area brings back memories of the classic cobblestone genre. Very clean and highly professional establishment. Will definitely return!
I don't leave reviews often, but we had such a great experience at this coffee shop. My husband and I took our 16 mo twins to the children's museum yesterday, and their cafe is closed due to the pandemic. We wanted to find somewhere kid friendly to eat, and we called a few restaurants that didn't even have highchairs. We came into the Coffee Shoppe, and not only did they have plenty high chairs, but also a children's menu with grilled cheese, pb&j, Mac and cheese, etc. that came with a juice and fruit snacks. We were so pleased, and the sandwiches my husband and I ordered were delicious, as was the pastries and coffee we took to go. The prices were great, and the staff was super sweet and friendly. Only thing to note is there is no changing table in the bathroom, if you do have young babies/toddlers. I would hands down come back again and recommend this place to anyone, especially anyone with kiddos. Such a wonderful experience!
Great Coffee, food staff and atmosphere. I love the Mediterranean Wrap and get my beans here. Highly recommend.
I'd recommend this place over dunkin, Starbucks, or other chain coffee shops. Their coffee was great, and priced lower than either of those chains for a single cup of hot coffee. Very surprised there! The line was long on a Saturday morning, but the place wa cozy and the menu looked like it had great options, though I didn't try. Would go back if I was in the area.
The barista was kind. It was my first time being there. She took time to explain the variants of each type of blend.
