Have stopped many times for lunch. Today just got a custard. What can I say. At 11am it was already 90 out. It was perfect. A must when in the Portsmouth area.
I have only been to Rick’s once, which I really enjoyed the custard and friendly service. However, my parents always talked about Rick’s when they were down in Chesapeake/Portsmouth area to visit my brother who used to live in the area. Too bad my wife and I didn’t live closer because I would definitely stop by a lot more often. Believe it or not, I still have a Rick’s Custard shirt my parents bought for me nearly nearly a decade ago.

Fantastic outdoor seating area with a swing big enough for our family. Friendly staff & great (very inexpensive) eats. Worth the drive from anywhere in Hampton Roads. Only one downside: nothing non-dairy on the frozen treat menu.
My kids have been telling me a while how great this place is. We just made our first trip there and they didn’t over exaggerate. The custard ice cream is terrific. We got the “All Shook Up” which is chocolate custard ice cream with peanut butter and bananas, very good. The building reminds me of a cool drive up diner from back in the day. Service was great and quick. Compared to chain ice cream joints the custard is much better and the amount you get for the price is a better value.
This is some of the best custard anywhere I have been. It is very fairly priced. I’ve never had a complaint here.

Delicious custard. A real treat. Line always around the building & on the road. Worth the wait. Met the owner & he is warm & friendly.
Fats service great options. Would recommend pulling into a parking spot rather than wait in the line to go through the drive through.
