Their subs are awesome.But don't sleep on the chili and brownies.
Ordered the steak and cheese with extra cheese, lettuce, sweet peppers, and onions. It was the flattest sub I've ever had in my life. It looked like someone took the droppings from one sub, tried to make a whole new one, and then stomped on it for good measure. There were also random bits of tomato, despite the fact I didn't order any, do obviously there's some cross contamination going on. AND it doesn't come with sauce, you have to pay extra??? Just terrible across the board, and I am not a picky eater whatsoever. I will never order from here again.
I ordered a whole steak and cheese. It was one of the worst subs I ever had. The bread is thick and hard as a rock. Also, they only give you two slices of meat with no seasoning.
Stared at, like I was an outsider, as I waited for my sandwich via takeout. The sandwich, the Greater Grinder, was nothing special. Hot lunch meat... Should've tried the Superior sandwich.
45 years strong...great service, friendly family-owned staff, and a neighborhood favorite...stop by and enjoy fresh made food and a friendly, familiar face!!! Enjoy!!!

I like this place a lot! I understand they have a Norfolk store also but haven't been there. They have a special of the day which is "a bargain". Food is fresh and well prepared. They help all customers but regular customers become friends & they remember usual orders the way I like them. All staff helpfull & friendly from owner to wait staff to table busser. Sometimes it is difficult 4 me to go in so they will bring it out & I may want to eat half a whole sub & they will wrap the other half sub for my supper. When I eat in, owner checks on my drink several times especially when I visit with a friend a long time after we finish the meal. My favorite sub restaurant.
My husband loved the meatball sub. Everyone else did also. We'll be back.
Best damn sandwich I’ve had in a while. Roast beef and cheese was fantastic. I believe this establishment has been in Portsmouth for a while…I know why…until next time
