Nestled in Downtown Portsmouth, Gosport Tavern allows you to stop back in time for some authentic pub grub (or as some folks say, "Bar food"). The drinks are good, but a bit on the pricy side. That's all that kept this from being a five star review. The fried chicken (2 breasts, mashed potatoes and sauteed green beans) were enough to share. I will be going back again.
Couldn't get in to the first choice and ended up very happy here. Great spot with some outside seating. Nice selection of draft beers and drinks. Food was great! We got plenty of food for each plate and needed boxes to take some home. The mac n cheese burger was awesome, serious eats! The spicy chicken sandwich was excellent with a nice thick fried breast. Sides were great and I recommend making the choice of substitution if you get a chance. Preston was our waiter and did a fantastic job making sure we enjoyed our visit! This is a great choice for drinks and dining in Portsmouth.
Neat atmosphere, clean, and just a cool place to eat and hang out. Ate lunch and had the quick lunch with a Cuban wrap, salad wedge and chips. The Cuban was the best one I have ever had. It was absolutely delicious. The chips and salad while not the level of the Cuban was really good also. Well worth the price. Will come back again for sure.

Just had an incredible lunch at Gosport Tavern! The food was outstanding! Had the Buffalo chicken wrap and chicken noodle soup. Both were SO good! Daniel was our server and he was so friendly and told us about how everything is made from scratch in the kitchen! Would highly recommend!! Go there and enjoy!!
If you want to watch drunk/high guys fake box as you eat… this is perfect. Easily yes this place is so amazing, but Saturday night in a window seat has more of a show then you had planned. Don’t get me wrong… my wife and I enjoyed most of the show. When I say most… I mean two guys that hung out our whole meal on the street that had no shame about being drunk/high in public. Easily, we could have shut the window blinds… but when we watched one leave and come back with pills to crush and snort. We were already committed into the story line. It is sad… the food here is amazing. We had a new server, (she literally said she was 17 so she can’t serve us alcohol). She was amazingly friendly and very respectable (we all need to start somewhere, she was great). If you take in the fact that it is downtown, and drug addicts/drinks happen… this place is amazing. I have been here many times and will continue to go here. Just don’t be surprised if you have an unwarranted menu item of eggplant on the street.
I absolutely love this place! The bar staff is very friendly. The beers on tap are one of a kind! The garlic cheese bites and steak bites are my go-to.If you're dining alone, sit at the bar and meet your new friends.
Great place for drinks and quick bites. Their menu may be small but it's got a great variety of foods and dishes. The truffle fries are good and the Chef Salad was delicious.
My friends and I had their brunch and I must say, their shrimp and grits was the best I've had at a restaurant! Truly delicious. The portions were nice sized and there was nothing but "you have to try this" heard across the table. Thats a sign of good food. Staff was friendly, prices were reasonable, and there was a decent amount of business but my reservation was honored and we enjoyed ourselves. Definitely will return.
Went there for lunch. The waiter was very friendly but the food is probably too expensive for what it is.
