I stopped in for lunch, taking a break from my regular eating spots in Old Town Portsmouth and I was very happy I did! I had the broccoli cheddar soup, it was very creamy and the taste was superb; plenty of broccoli, very cheesy, hint of garlic and fresh carrots on top. I went with the Wednesday special, Hamburger steak w/onions & mushrooms, Collard greens and side of fries. Everything came out super hot, just the way I like it. The Hamburger steak, had great texture, very flavorful and seasoned like a 5 star restaurant; the onions, mushrooms were very tender and the gravy had a nice beefy taste...The Collards came out hot too, the flavor was perfect, I normally add some extra vinegar when I eat collards; however, these were perfect and I didn't need to add anything! I had the cake to go and waited a couple of hours before I dug in - it was perfect, very fluffy and the icing complimented it well. The service was amazing, very welcoming; portions were plentiful and priced right. Great menu selection, I can't wait to go back!
Terrible customer service. We got there and noone spoke to us so we decided to seat ourselves. Already turned off. Our waitress came and took our drink order. She took our food order, brought my boyfriends coffee, and that was it. It took A LONG TIME for our food to cook. While we were waiting we saw her standing at a table running her mouth with two customers while holding a pot of coffee. She was there for awhile. Someone else brought us our food. My sub was not hot like I asked for and I was missing my BBQ sauce. Our waitress is still talking to those two people and continues to talk. So I ask another waitress for my sandwich to be made properly and for our condiments. I have to wait a little while for that to happen and then the other waitress brings those. Our waitress is still talking to those two people. She finally stops, passes us and goes and stands behind the cash register. My water is getting low, we are running out of napkins, running out of condiments, and my bf needs more coffee. Our waitress is doing everything else but attending to us. Therefore, my bf has to ask another waitress for more coffee. Our waitress continues to run around and never comes back to our table. I finally flag her down to ask for more honey mustard and she looks at me as if I shouldn't be asking her for anything. She brings it and again continues to walk around talking to everyone else BUT us. Finally I just ask another waitress for our check so we can go because at this point what am I here for. Clearly not good service and the food was mediocre. I believe the kind waitress that kept helping us is named Kaylie? Tall and blonde ? Thank you Kaylie, u are the only reason I gave two stars instead of one.Also, the food is way too expensive for the taste and service.
All around Great! First time here...Customer Service was great, very comfortable, breakfast was great and well portions!Family owned and operated!
I just warmed up and finished my left overs from lunch today. The flounder and shrimp dinner I had today for lunch was fresh and deliciously prepared. The service was like sitting down to a small family gathering. I am so glad I finally found my favorite place to eat in Portsmouth.Wow! Don’t miss this place ! Thanks again ladies. Thanks for an awesome portion of great food! You guys made my day.

The corner cafe has become one of my favorite places to eat since the new owners and family took over. Great food , great people, great desserts. A must try!
We are here for the first time yesterday and will most certainly be going back. Their food is amazing, and massive portions! The staff is so incredibly friendly and helpful.
Delicious breakfast! So much to choose from- portions are HUGE. The breakfast burrito was the size of my forearm. I love how customizable the breakfast bowl is. And let’s talk about grits for a minute- DELICIOUS! These are on the solid side (instead of a little runny), but they are certainly not instant- and seasoned with just the right amount of butter, salt, and pepper. It’s great to have this spot back!
