We've been meaning to hit up Press 626 for some time! Really nice lowkey but classy setup inside. Someone with a nice eye for design layed out and designed everything inside and the outside really is a testament to well thought out horticulture.I got the duck confit grilled cheese with rosemary-garlic tater tots, wife got the salmon BLT, and we got the baked Camembert appetizer. Everything is done well enough however The salmon BLT case like there's two heavy of a char on the salmon and it leaves the seasoning on the fish tasting just burnt, and the duck confit grilled cheese actually had a rather large bone in it and honestly isn't noteworthy. However, special emphasis needs given to the awesome baked cheese with walnuts and blueberry reduction compote! They offer a lunch combo for about $5 less than the full lunch meal, which I have to say the sandwiches are pretty big and filling and you'll be walking away with leftovers if you get the full lunch, so if you're looking to watch your intake and save a little bit then I recommend going with the lunch combos. The spritzer lemonades are fantastic! I got the lavender chamomile and it was so good! The sweet tea was perfectly sweetened, not too much not too little and we do prefer it on the sweet side. Perhaps on another outing we will check out the alcohol menu ?.Overall the only reason for giving three out of five stars is because of the price given the moderate degree of flavors delivered. You're looking at about $16 for a substantial but okay sandwich and small side, at least $6 a drink, and at least $13 for any of the appetizers. Our lunch date bill was $62. It was a date for us since it was my day off, but it does discourage us from making this a regular dining out spot. Nice setting for a date though!
Went there for a business lunch meeting earlier this week and could not find parking. I called to ask what they recommended as I had just driven 4 1/2 hours to get there. Abby answered the phone and proceeded to tell me that she was going to move her car from the parking lot so that I could get her spot and I would not continue to have to drive around after coming all that way. I was taken back obviously at this incredibly kind gesture. On top of that it was raining, and it didn't phase her one bit. Wow.This was just the beginning of my amazing experience at Press 626.The inside is cool, charming, and inviting. ALL staff were incredibly in tune with providing a positive customer experience to not just me, but every other patron in the place that I observed. The food came and it was literally one of the best salads I've ever had (their signature Cobb salad I believe it was). When in Norfolk again, I will always try to come back to Press 626 (especially so I can try out their wine selection next time) and can't recommend it highly enough. Abby is a rock star and they are INCREDIBLY lucky to have her.
When I go to Happy Hour (HH), I care more about food. Been to a few HH among the 49 countries I have been to, never had a restaurant which serves a side, French fries, as a HH dish and disguised as “a basket of garlic and rosemary delight.” The side for the duck confit sandwich was a soup with had tiny bit of beef which they also sold me as “steak.” No steak can fit into a tiny bowel of soup. Felt deceived; I rather they tell me what are being served exactly and not exaggerate the content. Was exploring places to take my family to when they come in town (large party) — definitely not bringing them here. Very disappointed.
We live down the street from this place! And it’s amazing! We had the Brussels and beetroot the lamb meat ball! I had the duck my friend had this fancy BLT that had salmon in it everything was great except for the panzenella mushroom salad came in a huge flat plate was very flat tasting buddy barely any dressing and the baby ruccolla didn’t seem fresh they took it off the check as we did not eat it, but everything else was a WIN!
Wow, what a great neighborhood gem! We recently moved to West Ghent and are enjoying tasting all that the Norfolk area has to offer. Press 626 is located in a large, old home that has been renovated to have cool eating nooks spread out over 2 floors. Our bacon wrapped date appetizers were fabulous, the charcuterie board delicious and our main courses of Gnocchi and steak were prepared perfectly! Portion sizes are excellent, drinks were delivered quickly and our waitress was wonderful! This is a spot we will return to again and again, yummy!
Ate there for today 2/5/22 for the second time. The restaurant is in Ghent, one of my favorite neighborhoods in Norfolk. Food is excellent, drinks are delicious, love the atmosphere, the entire staff is friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a pleasant and satisfying dining experience.
Press always comes through with great atmosphere, service, food, and wine. Every moment from entering the door to leaving adds to a great experience. This is my go-to for date on on any day of the week. The wine selection is a novel for wine lovers of all types with any budget. The staff is able to assist with pairings and recommendations on cocktails as well.I had the ‘Cheap Dates’ which are bacon wrapped dates as an appetizer. Very delicious. The chocolate tart with pistachio crust was out of this world. Thanks for the recommendation, Sarah!John Mark made his rounds to ensure waters and wine were never empty and Betty tends the bar like a pro.I’m very lucky to have such a high-tier establishment so close to home in the heart of Ghent and I always look forward to my next visit.
OMG! So delicious! Good food, atmosphere and service! This was my first time but it won't be my last. ?
Without a doubt the most amazing experience... the atmosphere is gorgeous and charming, and the food is PHENOMENAL! I can't recommend this place enough. The food is so incredible I would travel for it, but I am so lucky it's only a few miles down the road! The cocktails are unique and delicious, great selection of wines, reasonable prices, AND parking.... what more could you ask for?
Press 626 was an unexpected delight. My first visit won't be my last. The menu choices are such that there is something for every palette. I had Bacon wrapped dates for an appetizer and a salad with grilled chicken for my entrée. The homemade dressing was exceptional. The ambiance, with the lights in the windows was so quaint that I immediately felt relaxed. As the Cafe itself is quite cozy, I felt enveloped in comfort as I sat chatting away. Can't wait to take my husband there.
