Three of us stopped in for a late lunch, the first time we had been here in 2 or 3 years. I'll talk about the food in a minute, but our server Ian was outstanding. It looked like he was working the floor by himself, with some help from others, and he was attentive without being obtrusive. Others helped clearing our table and refilling our beverages, so service was top-notch. I had the Abbey Club, which was delicious, and the fries were very good. I had a bad experience at another restaurant a few days earlier with soggy, greasy fries. Not the case here. They were cooked well and tasted good. The others offered off the daily lunch menu. One had a burger, which he devoured. The third had shrimp Santa Fe. She was pleased because she said there were lots of shrimp, plus she noted the dish was a bit spicy, which she liked. We did not try desert because we were stuffed.

Nice decent place. An old church building with lots of nice interior. Great service. Nice area by the water and USS Wisconsin. The food was pretty good. I started with the she crab soup that was pretty good. Full of crab and thick. Then had the cilantro lime scallops over risotto and spinach. Was hood but was salty after awhile. Wife had the prime rib chicken fried steak. Was A LOT.

the atmosphere of the restaurant was incredible, the food was very good and the wait staff was excellent

She Crab soup is as good as they say. Lump crab meat, meets delicious soup. If you know, you know. If you don't, you should!

My workmates took me to lunch for my birthday. I had their Cuban and was not disappointed. While I have had better in Tampa, theirs is as good as other Florida Cuban's I have had. Another friend ordered the Salmon and she crab soup. She does every time she goes there. They do have perhaps the best she crab in the City of Norfolk.

Walking from Chrysler Art gallery to the ferry, we saw the cool Freemason Abbey tower. We had enjoyed this restaurant years ago and stopped for happy hour on our walk to the ferry. Fun break.

Delicious entrees, wonderful atmosphere, excellent service. Freemason Abby is our choice when it comes to special occasions or a relaxing evening out with friends.

The building

Nothing is good. Laden with heavy cream and rude staff

My husband and I had lunch at The Freemason on a Monday in April. I thought it sounded like a very unique atmosphere. Normally when we are a the beach, I would choose a restaurant near the beach. The Freemason is a 144-year-old renovated church and is beautiful inside. Our waiter was named Mark and could not have been more pleasant and informative. The menu has a wide variety, with reasonable prices. I had half a chicken salad sandwich and a cup of their award-winning she-crab soup. My husband had a seafood quiche which had shrimp & scallops in it. Both meals were tasty and we would order them again. Mark asked if we wanted dessert. We really did not need this, but it was an apricot bread pudding! How could we resist, so we split the dessert. As we were leaving the restaurant I asked about the history of the building. I don't know her name, but she was very pleasant. She gave me a brochure and even showed us special old photos of the building.
