This was our first experience with Tara Thai and we were very pleased. We walked in and ordered dinner to go- our food came out very quickly. Each dish was excellent. We are very familiar with the local Thai restaurants and this easily was the best we’ve had. We even chatted with some regulars (a military family) while waiting and it was their favorite Thai restaurant. Fresh, delicious, and they got our order right- a totally positive experience.
The food and service are both great! I went at a slow time so that had some effect. Their double thai spicy is quite spicy and very satisfying. The food was flavorful and cooked perfectly. Staff and atmosphere super nice and casual. (Google took me to the wrong side of the building, so if you have trouble finding it, that might be why)
Was so good! The thai tea is highly recommended. Pan See Ew and Tom Kha soup were very tasty!
First time here, the inside was very clean and well decorated. The host/waitress was extremely friendly and very helpful. Food was also excellent, the price was well worth the portion. The pineapple fried rice is amazing 10/10 recommended. Definitely plan to go back.
Employees were friendly, atmosphere good, but the food was not all that great in my opinion. Chicken was way too salty, I couldn't even finish it& didn't ask for a to go box. I ordered spicy chicken..all it was, was some fried chicken tossed in sweet Thai sauce&rice was cold. Nothing authentic about this particular dish.
Went with friends and the ambiance of the place was cozy and welcoming. Our server was very courteous and stellar when it came to service. We started with some mango mai tai and their classic thai tea in which both were delicious. We then ordered some fried tofu that included some nice sour sauce with crushed peanuts. However, the calamari we ordered were obviously the kind you get that’s already pre-made and frozen so that was a bit disappointing. Our entreé’s were the pad thai and their chef’s special Spicy Chicken which were delicious. The pad thai serving was on the smaller side and we’d prefer the bean spouts to not be as overcooked but it was decent. Then the spicy chicken was good flavor-wise but the breading was a lot thicker than the actual piece of meat and the bowl of jasmine rice included was a small scoop amount. Overall serving sizes fall on the smaller spectrum but the taste was pretty decent.
$46 for 3 pad thai entrees!!! What the what??? For that price, I would expect a lot more flavor and great quality. This is just your standard run of the mill but very overpriced Thai place. Nothing special at all. I gave them 1 extra star because they do offer gluten free and the employees are friendly but regardless a disappointment based on the high reviews.
This is my all time favorite Thai restaurant. I LOVE their crispy duck with red curry. It is to die for. Spicy is actually spicy at this restaurant, so when I would order hot at other places, here I order medium.
The absolute, hands-down second best authentic Thai restaurant in the area. Quaint, but so, so good! The Thai Iced Tea is amazing -- our family of five can get a jumbo size with no ice and it's perfect. The blue crab and shrimp fried rice, panang curry, Thai chili wings, and pad see ew are our favorite dishes. It's not loaded with sugar to accommodate American taste buds like a lot of places. Oh, oh, oh -- try the duck rolls and tom yum soup!! Honestly, you won't be disappointed with anything in the menu. We order from here, at least, once a month. The food is always great. The service is appreciated, as they are always on time. The owner is very sweet and the staff has a similar pleasantness.
I originally rated this restaurant 5 stars, but now I am reducing it after my second visit where I got food poisoning (I received a refund for this situation). Both visits were a great experience overall, and everyone that I take here has enjoyed it. The restaurant is modern and clean, the staff is very friendly and positive, and the food is delicious! However, after my most recent trip, I fell ill the next morning with food poisoning that could only have been from this restaurant (as I had been feeling completely fine before eating here). It’s really unfortunate that I’m now uneasy about coming back to what was previously my favorite Thai place in Newport News.
