Fresh sashimi, great salad (awesome dressing) and robust miso soup (not made out of instant powdwer), good service, small hole in the wall joint that's been around 20+ years. Lunch special chirashi was very good, almost as good as original Japanese restaurant. Sashimi special was also very fresh and generous portion. The only minor complaint would be that the rice was just a bit harder than what I prefer, but that's just me. My wife was very happy with her rice. Overall, surprisingly good joint even for the most astute food critic. Definitely worth going back again.
I ate my first sushi at this restaurant in 2007. I have visited several times since. They are a quaint, quiet, and family or couple establishment.I have enjoyed sushi at several restaurants in several states, this restaurant has as good or better quality. I’m very hesitant to write this review as I don’t want the secret to get out. That said, I must give credit where credit is due.
Best sushi in Newport News by a wide margin. Traditional sushi in a traditional atmosphere. Proprietors couldn’t be nicer.
This place truly is the best kept secret . The sushi is delicious and freshly prepared . It’s excellent quality and proper cuts of fish . Remember to tip your sushi chef when you’re leaving, they’re the ones doing all the work .

My boyfriend and I absolutely love Sushi Yoma! They have some of the freshest fish and most skillfully prepared rolls I’ve ever tasted, and the service is so friendly! Definitely worth a stop!
Stopped by this sushi restaurant today for lunch, ordered the chirashi bowl and spider roll. Sashimi was fresh and beautifully presented, staff was friendly, would recommend.
