They went way out of their way to fix up a cake for a birthday party on short notice. Excellent! Both the cake and the service.
Tawanda did an amazing job! The attention to detail on the cake was just as phenomenal as the taste. I am still in aww over it! Very impressed! Thank you for making it such a special day for us. We are truly thankful for your work!
What a miracle worker!!!! We used Cakes by Tawanda for our special event and it was simply amazing. W thought I knew what kind of cake we wanted then Tawanda sat with us and made suggestions that not only made sense but helped ensure our party centerpiece was perfect. There are hundreds of Cake specialty shops but Cakes by Tawanda is the best hands down. Just to let you know how good and perfect her cakes are, we traveled 6 one way to get this cake and it even held up perfectly on the drive home. Thanks for making our party special.
Our small wedding cake and cupcakes were done by Tawanda. The entire process with her was not as smooth as my other vendors and I think is because we didn’t spend as much. Our wedding was 65 people and we were doing other desserts as well. Tawanda’s communication was not there several times throughout the process. The automatic response you get is that they respond within 24 hours, they don’t. There were several times I had to send a follow up email. Brides, if you want to feel any what special (similar to how my other vendors treated me), this isn’t the place. We had a tasting that I had to initiate and get information on. The cake at the tasting was good. Tawanda never spoke about pricing throughout the process, just sent us an invoice. Didn’t give us an option to have the cake delivered and pay a fee, just told us to pick it up (on our wedding day). The cake itself was delicious and gorgeous, but we received so many complaints about the cupcakes being dry ?.. embarrassing. I had great wedding vendors, I kind of wish I went a different route with our cake, which I’m surprised about since she’s won food network awards. But the taste and customer service just wasn’t there for me as it should be for a wedding
I spoke with Tawanda, I found her to be pleasantly down to earth. I told her I was pleased with her website. I asked if she could create a cake for a gamer. A grown gamer! I asked if she could make it happen within a weeks time. She told me absolutely. When I arrived to pick it up, she presented me with a beautiful cake. I was afraid the cake would not be favorable. (In my experience, you substitute flavor for beauty or vice versa) I was wrong!! People kept coming back for seconds. The fresh strawberry filling was outstanding! "Chefs Kiss"!! When I tell you there was nothing but the cardboard leftover, everything including the "thank you" disc was edible and quite delicious!! I wasn't disappointed at all!! Thanks again for making part of my party successful. Highly recommended!!
I highly recommend Cakes by Towanda they did an amazing job for my daughter's Sweet 16. We ordered a cake plus cupcakes. The cake and cupcakes not only looked amazing but also tasted great. Price was reasonable, staff and owner very easy to work with.
I remember coming to Google trying to find a good baker in Newport News. My regular baker lost her touch and was never on time with my orders. I didn’t want to go across the water and the other bakers were out of my price range. I wanted a professional who could bring my dream to life but I didn’t want to go broke at the same time. Don’t get me wrong, I will pay for a good cake but some of these bakers are probably celebrity bakers and your girl isn’t on that level yet. The reviews for Ms. Tawanda were mixed and once I reached out to her and she told me her price I thought, she is so affordable... there is no way these cakes are going to be good. However, she was so nice and something in my spirit just said give her a try. I am soooo glad I did! The 2 cakes she did for me were absolutely stunning! The designs came out better than the pictures I provided. Not only did they look good... they were delicious!! Did I tell you that I am picky when it comes to cakes! My mother was a cake baker and decorator for years, so you have to come with that A game to impress me!! I am so happy I discovered her. When in the 757 she is my new go to! I am just so thankful for amazing quality and service at an affordable price.

5 STARS!!! And a standing ovation! I'm from MD. We planned a family trip/birthday party in the area and I was so hesitant and worried about who to order a cake from! My original order was canceled last minute by the shop I first chose, it was a blessing... I'm glad Tawanda chose to accept such a late order or I'd have missed out on such a great thing! They are so professional and accommodating! Her assistant baker helped us pull the car up and load it and he was so friendly and bubbly!! The aesthetic of the cake was MARVELOUS and compared to the excellent quality, the prices are more than fair! Especially when you compare the price to the quality of the cake! MOST IMPORTANTLY... Usually pretty cakes aren't tasty cakes, but I was surprised by how delicious and moist her cakes are! I chose the strawberry filled cake and yellow cupcakes and made treats to match... they were a HIT with everyone!!! I can't wait to be back in the area! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BAKER!!! You'd be doing yourself a disservice by NOT supporting her business! Our traditional summer birthday trip will always be in this area so we can continue to get such amazing cakes! I want to extend my gratitude and thanks again to Tawanda and her wonderful staff!!!
Great Cake and Decorations!!!We loved our cake so much, we got it again for our second anniversary and fell in love with it again. She was very creative with the decoration as we just told her to make it a nautical theme.Recommend Cakes by Tawanda for everyones cake needed event!!!
