Absolutely Love this place... so you are probably wondering why the 1 star. We have been enjoying Burger Theory since they opened in Newport News. This time we ordered a burger (Lone Star) and a salad (cobb) - like we have in the past. HOWEVER, this time, we received a burger with NO burger patty (we got the onion ring and BBQ sauce tho - LOL) and salad with no chicken or salad dressing. Wondering what happened... it was Friday night and maybe it's because they were within 20 minutes of closing??? Even though we ordered to-go! Does it make *us* horrible people because they were closing soon (not yet tho) - was this deserving of missing the main items from what we ordered?!?!?!!
We were skeptical like another reviewer because the restaurant is in a hotel. But we had a great experience here! Our burgers were great. Hubby had The Classic with fries and I opted for the On The Border Burger with a house salad. The fries and salad were good. We wanted to try their Mason jar desserts, but we were both too full. Our waitress Cecibel was so helpful and friendly! I had a headache from traveling and being dehydrated and she kept my water filled up the entire time. The atmosphere was good and other staff seemed friendly and helpful as well.
My total was $21 for a burger with fries, pop, and a side-salad (including tip). About what I would expect for hotel restaurant. Burger was fairly good. The only suggestion I have is that it was after 7 PM when I was there, so the servers were starting to do other tasks like clean up, sweep, and roll silverware. I don't know if this was by choice or by requirement, but this seemed to take away their attention. Service was "OK" but not as many check-ins as I would have liked.(Note: the side salad is $5 for a cup-size bowl with lettuce, cucumber and some tomato & croutons -- not worth it. See pic.)
This was a great burger spot. I loved staying at the Holiday Inn Newport News for this restaurant experience. Every burger I tried (the BT Boss & the Lone Star) were super good. Great quality meat and toppings. The fries were well seasoned and the Buffalo wings were a hit as well. My favorite drink on the menu was the blueberry lemonade, it was good and strong. I wish they had a better cocktail menu, but overall I really enjoyed every meal here over the weekend. The only downside was that the service was not always the best, but the food made up for it.
Honestly, they have amazing food but I've seen staff touching food that weren't wearing gloves. The fries are awesome. The buffalo chicken wraps are great! I haven't tasted much else but I worked in the hotel and have heard good things about the kitchen. Besides the person I saw touching burgers without gloves... I would say it's a decent restaurant. Would have given them a 5 star rating had I not seen that. And the kitchen is pretty clean tbh
Food was very good and the staff were very good. I was shock how good it was good. We will be back. Burgers were big and juicy.
Fast, friendly service, great burgers! Try the onion rings!
I've been desperately trying to find a good burger place since I moved here from the north, and finally.. it is here!! Best onion rings I've ever had, and the breakfast burger was amazing even reheated the next day! I'd love to visit in person to get a feel of the service and restaurant space.
Great burgers. I had my burger with onion rings and BBQ sauce, with a nice slice of cheddar cheese. It was cooked great and overall it was a wonderful dining experience!
We were the only two guests in the entire restaurant today around 2 pm. Suspect. The server was attentive, ordered our drinks, then followed up with two of their Classic burger options, both medium temp. I always test the signature/original/this-is-what-what-us item of whatever the establishment is known for, especially with it in their brand name. The burgers arrived, and we did our analyses. They were good! Also teetering between medium well-well done, but good! The bun/burger patty ratio was pleasantly balanced, and there was a decently loud flavor inside their KGB sauce slapped inside. Also, the fries were their personal take on boardwalk fries that hosted a mild seasoning and had a good crunch; came out fairly hot too. While the server was nice, and the food was worth coming back for more, there was nothing notably spectacular about Burger Theory's flagship burgers or fries in the increasing competitive hamburger market.P.S. If we were the only two guests for 75% of our time there, please do not ask us for burger temperature options if they can not be executed properly.
