Overall, the food was very tasty. I liked the pasta, and the bread was good too. But it seems like they're cutting corners and "making up for it" with flavorful sauces. Our waitress started our experience off a little awkwardly. I guess we came right in between lunch and dinner, so after letting us look over the lunch menus for a few minutes, she came over and swapped them out for dinner menus- which appears to be a $7 price increase JUST for an added side salad with the entree...The $7 salad seemed cheaply/lazily prepared: it was a plate of lettuce with shredded carrot, 2 small slices of onion, 1 hunk of Cucumber, and a slice of tomato (and one of our plates didn't even have the tomato). Italian dressing was good. Bread was good.My meal (Pasta Azzurri) came out hot, and seemed freshly prepared. The sauce was creamy and delicious, I thought there was a very appropriate amount of protein and vegetables in my dish. My partner's meal (Chicken Giuseppe) came out lukewarm. The sauce on this one was a lot lighter, and the flavor composition was not as good as the Azzurri. Additionally, the "grilled" chicken was definitely not grilled; probably microwaved or boiled, as it was white as a sheet with no sear marks in sight. We also were left wanting more water, like it wasn't refilled enough. Which really isn't the biggest deal, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. It's really tasty Americanized Italian food, but this experience kinda left a sour taste in my mouth (metaphorically).
Awesome authentic Italian. Portions are excellent and pricing is not bad at all! Friendly staff will definitely bring us back from Virginia Beach to enjoy again.
This restaurant really gets it right! The pizza is delicious! I love the crust. The sauce and cheese are very much working together to bring a satisfying bite every time. They provided excellent service and even delivered it to the nurses station for my donation Easter weekend!! You definitely need to try Azzurri Italian Restaurant when in the Newport News area.
The service was excellent. The servers were very attentive and had great team work. The food is delicious and we didn't wait an extensive amount of time. We will be back.

If you want Southern Italian cooking, THIS is the place. Easily the best Italian restaurant in Newport News. Between this place and Reginello's you can get good Italian cooking in most of Hampton Roads. My only complaint was the pasta sauce was too sweet for my liking, but that is a taste preference and not a reflection on the restaurant itself. The meat sauce was the perfect consistency and the meat was perfectly cooked. I also hadn't had a meatball that good in a while.Definitely will be a repeat customer.
I went here with my son because of the 5 stars on Yelp. This place did not disappoint. From the greeting at the door to the food being served we’re all pleasant. I actually tasted the anchovies in the Caesar dressing and the pull of the cheese on the pepperoni pizza was amazing.
Quality here has gone down soooo much. The Alfredo is soupy and the service is less than subpar. Came in a few days ago and sat outside, and it was 15 minutes before we even got a menu. Saw other people being seated inside and waited on immediately. We were literally forgotten about. Sucks because azzurri is usually good
