A lot of places are closed on Monday, and that could be a very good thing—analogous to being out for a sail in the Chesapeake Bay and finding you have to race a storm inland—and finding yourself in a beautiful new harbor you had never visited before. Angie’s Cafe was my harbor for lunch today, I was really happy with this new “port,” which is open for lunch until three p.m.Angie’s is owned by a Puerto Rican with a very happy talent for decorating, so the dining area is as pretty as the food is delicious. Located in the Stoney Run complex, which boasts several other very dependable restaurants, it has been in business for a year and a half already.Angie’s Cafe makes almost all the beautiful pastries on display—except for the very attractive Danish pastries that they bring in for the less daring clientele. Puerto Rican pastries use more exotic flavors—Guava, Dolce de Leche, even Nutella! It is worth a visit just to admire the pastry, but the sandwiches of course are good for you! Also noteworthy is the coffee, for although admittedly it is not Puerto Rican—another story—don’t hesitate to ask—the choice is an excellent medium-bodied Costa Rican that is ground in-house. I found it rich enough for excellent iced coffee with my lunch! The Manager/Chef/Waitress, very gracious, capable and attractive young Puerto Rican, admits to being homesick for the mountainous countryside she grew up in, but she says today she feels it is safer to live in Newport News with her daughter!I expect to return often when I am in Newport News at lunchtime—I think it is only about three miles from my house, but of course one usually dines at home when one is not out of town. But I certainly recommend the entire dining experience to everyone!

This place was great! Iced coffees were delicious, friendly service, and beautiful little Cafe! I will definitely be going back!

Love the place the food the pastries. Veronica is the sweetest. Brought me memories from back home. everything was delicious. Great atmosphere with even board games for kids to be entertained. Definitely a must go. And I will be returning. ?

Awesome service, great sandwiches and delicious one of kind coffee.

Friendly service with a smile. Beautiful decor and atmosphere. Lovely bread baked on site. Tasty panini and wonderful coffee. Will be back.

I really liked how welcoming the couple that runs this Cafe was when my husband and I stumbled upon it. The pastries were yummy and they would be five stars if they had food like a breakfast sandwich....just one sandwich. Foodforthought

Best coffee in Newport News! Fantastic, friendly service and delicious pastries.

This was my first time coming into this beautiful cafe and was instantly greeted by the barista behind the counter (who was pretty busy) however he still had a great upbeat spirit and smile . I ordered a large iced caramel macchiato with almond milk , a turkey panini, and the pastry with powdered sugar and guava in the inside .The iced caramel macchiato I must say was the BEST I’ve ever had the espresso was smooth and it wasn’t too sweet which I liked . The panini was also really good the bread was crisp and fresh . I really liked the pastry it was light and fluffy the guava filling in the inside was perfect !The menu is also reasonably priced compared to other cafes which is also a plus. I will definitely be visiting again to try other drinks and food items.

first time i went it was great but the second time the pastry had very little cream and just a dash of powdered sugar. I assumed it was just a one time bad pastry but the next time I went I got a pastry that had little to no powdered sugar and about a spoonful of cream; it tasted like a piece of bread for 6$ not even good bread like plain bread.

The best coffee around, hands down. The sweets are an amazing cherry on top of everything else.
