The Shaved Duck has met our expectations and more every time we have gone there. The food, the atmosphere and the staff are top notch. It’s so nice to go to a restaurant as a family and still have delicious food and drinks. I highly recommend brunch and dinner at The Shaved Duck.
We came here for brunch and it was such a great experience! Duck is definitely their strong suit. The duck in the hash and the duck and waffle are both so delicious. Although for the hash you really don’t get much duck meat. The waffle itself was pretty dry but the pickles they put on top are pretty interesting addition to the flavor. Also recommend their bread board! Everything is made in house and everything on the board is soooo delicious!
If you're looking for great food and amazing drinks with a relaxing ambiance, this is the place. The food has always been a hit whether it's duck or beef and the new duck smash burger is an amazing twist on everyday burgers. The range of drinks that the mixologists have is some of the best in Richmond.

Came in from Syracuse, NY to visit family and we happened to be in town on our anniversary. Decided we wanted to go out somewhere nice for our anniversary dinner and I am so incredibly glad we came here. We were greeted immediately and shown to a table by very inviting and fun hostesses. Our waiter, Ben, was absolutely fantastic and on point with anything we needed. The fried green tomato appetizer was the best I've had short of being further south in Alabama. Pork belly appetizer was cooked perfectly with a crispy, flavorful meat and melt-in-your-mouth fat, balanced out beautifully by the house-made pickles and warm sushi rice. For entrées, my wife got the Filet, which was almost like a deconstructed Beef Wellington. Cooked perfectly medium, with fluffy and buttery whipped potatoes. The puff pastry is served as a pop-over with the whiskey mushrooms inside, and the mushrooms were perfectly soft and flavored. There is supposed to be country ham in the dish, but I'm not sure we got any unless the puff pastry pop-over was made with the ham fat, which is absolutely fine. The Duck Breast was the standout for me. Phenomenal cook on the duck, perfectly Roasted sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts, and the best cherry-port wine sauce. The plating on everything is beautiful, absolutely phenomenal flavors, perfect across the board. 20/10, from one fine dining chef to another, I would fist fight someone for the opportunity to work here if I had to if we lived in the area.
My husband and I tried The Shaved Duck for brunch today. The food was all cold, and they didn’t have the French toast bread ready, so couldn’t get that. Husband ordered a sausage and green pepper omelet, and got through half of it without finding a single piece of sausage. But we were fine with it all… All the way up until this……. They have an open kitchen. The cooks were dressed in t-shirts and looked shabby. I’m used to seeing professionalism in open kitchens, I suppose. One of the cooks had been sniffling and rubbing his nose while cooking. He went to blow his nose and we watched him throw his paper towel away, and then went and grabbed his cooking utensils and started cooking again, without washing his hands. We brought it up to the bartender, and they sent her back out to lie to us and tell us he washed his hands. The manager didn’t even come out at first to talk to us, which I thought was crazy. I asked to speak with the manager who gave us the whole “everyone takes their temps, they wash their hands so much that their hands are all cracked and dry, etc. etc.” She told us that unfortunately with an open kitchen, sometimes you see humans be humans. No apology or anything. This isn’t a COVID issue—this is an I-don’t-like-snot-in-my-food issue. I told the manager we were done (without finishing any of our food), and would pay for our drinks, tip our bartender, and leave. She never even offered to take care of our meals or anything. The fact that the cook lied about it and there was no remorse or apology is what really got me. Things happen… it’s all in how you make up for it. We will not be back, and will never recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Shaved Duck has been one of my favorite restaurants- I’ve been going since they opened and supported them during Covid. We went there tonight (6 of us) to have a drink at the bar. There were 6 seats at the bar, not all together but we didn’t care. The bartender went to the hostess and said she can’t take anymore customers at the bar. They then came and let us know they can’t seat us (but there were 6 seats). Worst experience i think I’ve ever had at a restaurant. I’m guessing the bartender was overwhelmed, maybe they were short staffed, really not sure because all they said was the bartender said no more customers. Not sure I’ll continue supporting a restaurant that treats their customers so poorly.
Brunch review - Bacon- bloody is one, if not the best in town. Staff is very nice. Food is always good. Keep in mind that everyone is still understaffed so things are slower, but it's worth the wait... If you want your hand held and 20 people waiting on your every move, go somewhere else...
This was our 4th time at the Shaved Duck, first brunch. Every time we go we have the best experience. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. The menu has different offerings each time we go, which I love! The food has never disappointed. Fresh and delicious.
Got there 5:30pm, place was empty. Needed table for 10. Was told they couldn’t handle that many ?? The place was EMPTY! Crazy !
