Every time I have been the staff has been friendly, the food is amazing and cooked to perfection!
Food menu is nice with a lot of different things to try. The drink menu is large and varied. Service was average. Wings were fantastic but my wife's steak was way overcooked. They replaced her meal right away and gave us a discount for the mistake.
positives:-Server was great very friendly and attentive kept her tip because of it.-pretzel is awesome beer cheese just ok- daughter-in-laws steak was good.-issues:-fries with my burger were cold and under a heat lamp to long-no longer a go to place for a burger the paddy was small over cooked and Luke warm and lettuce terrible.- wife's meal some kind of turkey flat bread turkey had no flavor and the sandwich was thin.- my sons Mac and Cheese was dry and tasteless.-108.00 with tip not worth it other than the server. You guys have a lot to work on and your employees are suffering because of it.I did not talk to anyone because they could careless and put out such bad food.YOU HAVE MAJOR ISSUES YOU NEED TO ADDRESS WITH FOOD QUALITY AND WHOMEVER IS ALLOWING IT TO BE SERVED.Follow up to add:Capital Ale House emailed me for more details and I replied. Never contacted me back or offer nothing for this horrible experience to resolve.THIS IS NOW A DO NOT GO TO PLACE FOR ME.EXPERIENCE: BAD FOOD, BAD FOLLOW UP!VERY DISAPPOINTING.
Lots of Everything---to include a nice selection of Stouts to include Imperial Stouts; Found my Happy Place! The only reason I did not give 5-Starts is the burger selection seems (unless I missed it) to Only offer Cheddar Cheese on Burgers (I want American Cheese); Super Boring to say the Least. The burger I ordered was cooked to Perfection and Tasty but the Cheese, not a Fan of Cheddar took it to a disappointing level. I know, there is Always something to complain about. Yet, rest assured, I will be back and the other choices of food are Amazing, Calamari, Snitizel, Fish and Chips, Pretzels, Beef Ribs, so Many Options....., v/r, Dr. Ken King
My family has been to this Capital Ale House 4-5 times pre-pandemic and just made our first return visit since. All those previous visits were easily 5 star meals. Food was great, service was good, atmosphere was nice. Tonight however, was a very different experience.Upon entering we were seated right away... however it took 15 minutes (being generous) before we had to flag down a hostess to get someone to wait on our table. And it’s not like we were alone in a corner. Four separate waiters took care of other guests around us and even patrons that arrived after us while we waited patiently. The waiter that eventually served us (had been waiting the table next to us and we were obviously in his section) told us that our lack of service was because the hostess hadn’t told him that we were there. Bald faced lie - this man had looked me in the eye while serving the other tables prior. And they had plenty of staff to cover the amount of customers that were present. Our waiter wasn’t unplesant by any means, but I hate being lied to.So we finally get our food ordered. Appetizers came out fast, food was a little slow but not terribly slow. But... I take one bite into my mashed potatoes to find that their is a hair wedged under my potatoes. The waiter takes it away and has the meal re-made. The manager comps my meal and appetizer and even throws in a free desserts for the family. Pretty good compensation for the damages done, however I was there with a 3&1 yr old who aren’t easy to keep tame for the 1hr45min it took for us to walk in the door to the point we finally got the re-made meal in a to-go box and out the door. Time is the ultimate price I paid for these errors. But wait, there’s more! My son took advantage of the free dessert and ordered a brownie w/ ice cream and we took it to go on account of both kids already beyond their limits of sitting still. As we get home, we unpack the dessert. The ice cream was served in a transperant container separate from the brownie BUT... it had started to melt some to reveal (you guessed it) another hair entangled in the ice cream.I don’t know if this was just a bad night, as several other patrons seemed to have the same issues my family did that night, or if this is an issue with staffing from top to bottom. All I know is that the cumuluative effect of tonights experience is probably enough to make us never come back. A real travesty, because their Rouladen special was one of the best, authentic German meals I have had outside my late family cooking it.
The only reason why I ever came to Capital Ale House was for a built-in ice tray. Selection is good but not out of this world based on the Richmond market. The built-in ice chiller on the bar top set them apart. They’ve filled it in with hard resin. You might as well enjoy more modern better-Priced competitors now.
Maybe it was the time of night but this our first time and it was the worst tasting food me and my husband ever experienced. I had the new strip steak w/broccoli and southern macaroni and cheese and he had the sirloin steak w/broccoli and southern macaroni and cheese. His steak was under cooked and still bleeding and he asked for well done, my broccoli was hard but I was looking for a more tender texture. Anyway overall would never suggest. Threw it out after a few bites. Also I have never wrote a bad review for any restaurant I ever went to but for what we spent it should have been WAYYYYY BETTER…We spent $60 + and will never go back here sadly.
The pretzel, cheese and grapes appetizer was good. I had the 2# mussel dinner with gouda and bacon and it was awesome. My wife had the Bleu cheese and steak salad. They cooked her steak to the right doneness. The only let down was the carrot cake dessert. It came out still partially frozen and we had to take it home to give it time to defrost. Our server Michelle did an fantastic job.
My wife and I moved up here from Greensboro two years ago. G’boro’s burger game is on point, and my wife and I enjoy good burgers! We were so disappointed with our burger experiences here in Richmond until today.Capitol Ale, thank you!!! What a great dining experience! It was our first time, but it won’t be our last. Glad to finally meet you
Went for a birthday party. Very accommodating and the service/staff was awesome, especially dealing with our crazies! Food was great! Definitely will be back!
