As seafood lovers we visit this one a lot. My husband likes the Haddock but I prefer catfish. I like the sweet potato fries.
So far, always excellent. Poboys, tacos, and scallops have all been deliciously consumed.
I have gone to the Skrimp Shack in Mechanicsville about six times in the past year or so. My first visit was good. The last few visits, however, were disappointing. And the last visit a few days ago was so bad that I have no plans to return there again. While I was waiting for my Skrimp Po’ Boy to be prepared, I noticed that they appeared to be microwaving the sub rolls. That struck me as curious. When I got my meal, I took it to my car to eat it immediately. The roll that my po’ boy was on was hard as a rock. Dry and stale. I could barely bite through it. The hush puppies were equally bad -they tasted like they were cooked in old oil or in oil that was contaminated with seafood. I was tempted to take my food back in for a refund, but needed to get home and therefore decided to just eat the shrimp out of the sandwich. I threw most of the meal away. It was a complete waste of money. The roll used for the sandwich should have never been served. And I suspect that is why I saw them apparently microwaving a roll-to somehow restore “freshness” to it. Although I drive by this location frequently, I have no intention of ever going back. The memory of that last meal is going to stick with me. They may have saved a little money by serving an old roll and cooking in what tasted like old oil, but they have lost a repeat customer as a result.
