As someone who has had many meads before and works at a Meadery in MD, I highly recommend Capital Hive Meadery. While I do like dry wines, I prefer sweeter meads. The meads at Capital Hive pack a flavorful punch and range in sweetness, but primarily focus on sweeter meads. The owner, Paul, who served us was fantastic and we will definitely be back. We left with 8 bottles of mead. Love it!
This place was a wonderful surprise! My dad and I went as part of our father/daughter craft beverage Sundays, and I was blown away by the quality and flavor of the meads. Paul was awesome to talk to, and my only regret is that we came so close to closing so we couldn’t stay longer!
I love a good mead. Capital Hive mead taste like a really good home made brew with rich flavors and uplifting notes. I bought three bottles of mead: Abyss, mango key lime tart, raspberry chocolate cheese cake they were all delicious. So do your taste buds a favor and go in for a few drink and take a few bottle homes. You will not be disappointed.
I love this place. Prior to this year, I had only been here a handful of times. And yet, after only a couple of visits, it became clear whenever I came back that the owners remembered me. Not only that, but they made recommendations of what I may like based on what we had discussed at my previous visits.Yes, you may be thinking, but what about the mead? Well, in a word, it's delicious. They have offerings from the entire mead spectrum including everything from dry to dessert-wine sweet, and they are all phenomenal. Their super sweet ones are so well balanced that they do not have that cloying sugary sweetness some meads and wines can tend to, and their recent experimental offerings have been absolutely mind blowing. We went in the other day to use a Groupon for a tasting we had purchased prior to becoming members, and ended up having an absolutely awesome conversation with one of the owners. They are always so friendly and are always willing to share info about their mead. Basically, come for the mead, stay for the awesome conversation.
Unreal good. This is absolutely the best mead I've ever had: they have both sweet and dry options,but the sweet options truly shine.Basically "dessert in a glass", the sweet meads like Abyss and After School Special have cemented their places as my favorite drinks of all time.Additionally, the owners are very friendly and eager to talk about the brewing process. I love this place and I can't recommend them highly enough.
It’s a cute little place to sit and have a good drink.It’s nice to have something different and unique that also tastes delicious. There are a good variety of flavors, with new ones frequently added, so it’s easy to find something you’ll like. Definitely recommend the slushees when available, too!
Capital Hive is a hidden gem! The mead is unique and delicious and the owners incredibly helpful. Their tasting room has an awesome vibe and is a great place to hang out for an hour (or four!) drinking mead and chatting. If you are not into mead, they also have amazing ciders and boozy slushees! Check it out!
This was my first experience trying Mead and it did not disappoint. We ended up trying every varietal (if that's the right term?) but our favorites were the After School Special and the Abyss. I don't think I could drink Mead regularly -- it's a bit too sweet for me to drink more than a glass of it in one sitting -- but I definitely appreciated the differences in flavor profiles across the product line. They also had a dry cider on tap that I thought was very well done.One of the co-founders was there hosting the event and through him sharing Capital Hive Meadery's story we could really see the passion he has for the business. Their tasting room is relatively new, but it's a cool place to come check out on a nice day with large windows in front and very high ceilings the place feels very welcoming.
The owner is an amazing guy!! This place the one of the best meads I have had in a really long time! It’s has really traditional flavors, and also super unique flavors. Everything is brewed in house. They have fantastic sweet meads and a few for people who like dry and less sweet. I highly recommend this place and the delicious meads. I’m very picky about my meads and the only thing in the last decade that has made me want to come back is this place!! I highly recommend it!!
