The food here was amazing, one of the best Indian meals I've had in years. The place settings and dishes were disposable, due to covid measures but the service and quality of the meal more than made up for it. Our serving sizes were large. I might well drive an hour just to visit here again! Recommend.
Tried their non-veg thali. The ambience looks decent and calm. Thali covers decent amount of items and most of them are tasty. Special mention to the chef who brought us the hot biryani to the table, looks like he really enjoys cooking. Biryani was delicious that day and service as well. Also tried their idly chutney both are super good.
Really bad food. All the dosas tasted the same and were thick . They had garam masala sprinkled like red chilli powder in all the dosas we ordered and on top of that they didn't serve coconut chutney. It took them forever to make uttapam and it arrived half cooked and cold. All these even when only two tables were occupied on a Saturday evening. It takes a special skill set to make south Indian food taste that bad. This is probably my worse experience of south Indian food in NoVa.
Wasn’t expecting to put a 5 star review on an Indian place here in Herndon based on previous ill experiences in other similar joints but this place has phenomenal food (their thali was 17.50 but so delish). Neither of us got sick and we both thoroughly enjoyed the flavors, which is rare.
Worst experience ever! It was a great place for Indian food a few years ago before COVID. I went with my family to have their Thali (taste was not great) and after we finished the food in the plate and ready to pay the check, waitress says there’s biryani, I could have got it for you. When I asked her why we weren’t initially told that biryani was served as part of thali, she gave lame excuses and didn’t have a courtesy of packing that to go! When I talked to the manager Pavan, he started comparing it to how American restaurants serve bread as complimentary (FYI- customers are informed by waiters about complimentary food at the restaurants) and that we have to check Facebook because that’s where they mention and everyone in the world knows that they serve biryani with Thali. When asked why it was not mentioned on the menu, he gave lame excuses of their menu changing every day/week. The manager had the audacity to say that Indians only complain at the Indian restaurants and not in the other restaurants(that was straight discrimination). Will never visit this place and wouldn’t recommend to any of our friends.
We were a group of 6. We came from Dallas to meet a friend in Virginia. Our friend carefully picked Tatva Indian Cuisine as the top restaurant. We went for lunch on Mother’s Day with my mother. We had non-veg Thali. The food was so so tasty. It is the best quality food. Thali had so many dishes. Chicken curry, Mutton curry, Chicken malai kabab, potato fry, fish fry, Dal, sambar, rasam, papad. Then there was white rice, awesome jackfruit Biriyani, super awesome tasty chicken Biriyani. Everything was so fresh and so tasty as soon as it touched the tongue. The owner Rajanikanth is such a hard worker and is the master chef. He treats every customer like a relative visiting his home for lunch. So warm and so down to earth. They were understaffed but still they served us with great care and attention. We had a lovely meal.
I went on a Saturday and the restaurant was empty. Very average taste. Not at all authentic south indian. Restaurants like Adyar Ananda bavan(A2B), Sai Saravana bavan(S2B) and Rupa vira, Tawa fry has increased the standards of Indian restaurants in this area with their consistent authentic taste. Probably people are going there and not coming here. If you cannot pull crowd on a Saturday, It's time for the owner to close the business and invest money somewhere else.
They have a 2nd restaurant in the back called tatva express for takeout. The food is bad and its Expensive! It did not go well with the stomach either! Bad idli, bad uttappam, poori with previous day bhaji. Surprisingly, the sambar is great though. They have some renovations going on and it feels like a construction site inside. To top it off, they have a mandatory 10-20% gratuity, even on takeout! Not worth even 1 bit.
I had Veg thali here and it’s horrible . I don’t know how can they charge same for veg and non veg . If negative starts available , I could have given -5. Poor customer service, low quality food .
This place used to be my go-to from about 2018 to just before COVID. They had delicious soft butter naan, and absolutely amazing veg curries. It may have been due to the hardships caused by the pandemic, but this place is not at all recognizable from those days. The order I received some days ago consisted of curries that each had a sizeable layer of just oil. Eating these felt like drinking straight out of the bottle. The naan, which used to have a softness that noone in this area could compete with, is now your generic, hard to chew naan. Truly disappointing to have witnessed the downfall of perhaps the one thing that could have saved this restaurant.I've tried ordering consistently from this place, even during the earlier days of the pandemic when orders would often run 1-1.5 hours late. But I think the time has come to quit.
