I first went to Mellow Mushroom years ago when they first opened in Herndon. I wasn't impressed. The pizza at the time was flat and felt more like frozen. Literally like a Party Pizza from the grocery store. Fast forward to now and I went back. Huge difference. The pizza is closer to New York style and it was awesome. Many unique flavors you wouldn't think would work but is incredible. The Pacific one was a surprise. The Jalepeno's aren't too spicy and don't ruin the pizza. We also ordered the cosmic wings for an appetizer. Was amazing.Bottom line, this is now a proper pizza place and I'll be returning and ordering more often.
Mellow mushroom used to be our favorite pizza place until we found a piece of sharp plastic in their Havana pizza. On the next day, we spoke to the manager, and he recognized where that piece of plastic was from (their sauce bottle). We got a new box of pizza, and a gift card, then was told that we would get a call from his manager the next day to discuss the issue in detail and have the amount refunded. Nobody called us for the next four days until we finally reached out on the 5th day for a refund. Apparently, they were too busy to follow up on the case.All we wanted to know was how that piece of sharp plastic got inside the pizza and what was done to prevent something like this from happening again in the future. Unfortunately, however, it seems like Mellow Mushroom does not care about what could have caused a severe injury.
This place has a heckin good pizza! The crust is very thick thoughToppings are god tier.
I put explicit instructions in the online order box that said :INSTRUCTIONS." according to the driver he can's see them, and according to the manager in Herndon VA, he cant see them either. They didnt follow instructions. Second the pizza was cold. I had to go heat it up in a microwave down the hall from my hotel room. I enjoy the Mellow Mushroom in Roanoke VA but definitely not here. I will not be reimbursed for 40.60 for the medium pizza I ordered. When feeding the participants in the program I travel for, I will never use Mellow Mushroom except in Roanoke VA
Awesome food! The crust here is top notch. Kids loved it and so did we. The manager Aaron even stopped by to make sure everything was good. Great food AND service! 5 stars!

We took a group ordered the pacific half without jalapeños. The mighty meat, a cheese pizza and a Veg-out. All were delicious. Great atmosphere, food and service.
I've heard of this place for years, and finally got around to checking it out.It's really good (the classic crust is bready, but well crusted and not gooey). I ordered a large "holy shitake" (sub olive oil base for tomato sauce), and it did not disappoint. In fact, 2 slices and I was full/satisfied, took the rest home and popped it directly in the freezer. Today I reheated another 2 for lunch in the over on the bottom of a preheated cast iron, and it was just as good.
3/11/22: Stopped in for a late lunch. Small pie with cheese, mushrooms, and onions. Took a long time to get it. Noticed a lady bring her pizza back into the store saying it was raw and undercooked. I didn’t pay her much mind. After a long wait, my pizza arrived. When I say it was undercooked, it was really undercooked. The toppings were cold. Like refrigerator cold. The outside crust was cooked, but warm, like it sat outside the oven for a while before I got it. It was almost like the toppings went on after the pizza came out of the oven. The guy offered to take it back into the oven. No way, I don’t send food back to an angry kitchen. He came back and said “The upper oven temp was low”. He offered to take it off my bill. I told him that was up to him because I was hungry and ate some of it. I will never demand a refund. Needless to say, he didn’t take it off the bill. I paid $28 for a small undercooked pie and a side salad. This is the third time I’ve been to the place and had a bad meal. I never posted a review before. I figured I’d try them again, and unfortunately, it’s still bad. I won’t be returning. Especially after the First Lady came in complaining about her pizza, and then mine came cold. I guarantee it’s been like that all day. Note to management: A customer should never have to demand something be taken off their bill and they shouldn’t be asked if they want it taken off their bill. For a complaint of that magnitude, it should be automatic. I do not recommend Mellow Mushroom in Herndon, VA.
When my daughter and I went to the one in Herndon, we had terrible service there, and the pizza was equally bad. Maybe it was an off night? I don’t know.
