My husband and I stopped here for breakfast on the way to Luray Caverns on a Wednesday morning and we loved it! The staff is very kind, and welcoming. The breakfast is a traditional southern menu! My husband got “The Whole Barrell” for $10.50 and it came with 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, your choice of sausage/bacon/maple ham, your choice of potatoes shredded/hash/rounds, traditional grits and your choice of biscuit/English muffin/toast. I got the egg/cheese/bacon biscuit with corn beef hash! The biscuit was $3.75 and a side of corn beef hash I believe was in between $2-$3. This little diner is located maybe a mile off the interstate behind the exon gas station. We would highly recommend stopping in and supporting this delicious local southern comfort diner!
It feels like perpetual Thanksgiving when you walk in. The food was very good and the waiter was really nice, but it took like an hour and a half to get our food and I could barely wash my hands because the water pressure was nothing but a little trickle. On the plus side, they did have like 5 different kinds of soap. I would recommend eating there, but only if you have the time and patience to wait. I suppose good things come to those who wait, plus it also gives you ample time to bond with your family
We had lunch reservations, and they took our drink and food order shortly after we sat down. They were busy, however after hour 2, we asked the staff where our food was since other tables that sat down after us received their food before us. They ensured us it was coming out. After another 15 minutes, we had to ask again. They then said our order was lost. Not once did a waiter come over to tell us our order was lost, they never came back to check on our table once the order was placed in the beginning, and no one came to fill any of our drinks. Once we addressed this the last time, the owner or manager made it very clear she was not interested in comping our meal after we have now waited almost 3 hours. While we were still speaking with her, she turned around and walked away mid-sentence. Absolutely disgusting behavior and disrespectful all around. Our family will not be returning, nor do we recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The food at this restaurant was some of the best that I had eaten in years. We almost left due to the poor customer service, but another waitress took pity on us and she completed our orders for us. Our original waitress appeared to have totally forgotten us as she was too busy sitting on her stool by the door. We will definitely go back for the food and I just hope that they can fix the customer service issue.
Great food Fast service Our table had patty melt Fried catfish and bourbon glazed salmon
These folks bend over backwards to make sure you're happy. The food is really good and there's a wide variety. Liver and onions, spoonbread, chicken, everything I've ordered there has been delicious and so reasonably priced. I tall green
This is by far the BEST resturant that I have visisted since prior COVID. The customer service is a 10++++, Service 10++++ food selection +++++ food quailty 10++++++++ atmosphere 10+++++++ I got the fried Oysters with hush puppies and a cup of ham &bean soup. The oysters were fresh battered NOT FROZEN!! And large with a light fluffy batter so you tasted the fresh oyster and not a bunch of fried flour. The soup was just perfect! The Hush Puppies were hot & fresh and delicous. I strongly recommend this amazing restuarant! I am already planning my next visit to the area so I can go back to The Pickle Barrel and try some of the many choices of items they offer.
Absolutely one of the best places for a diverse menu of southern traditions. All the food was exceptional. The desserts are phenomenal. As suspected when we asked are all made home made in the store. Highly recommend this place.
Only leaving a review because it happened twice. We had a reservation and were seated promptly...and then waited 25 minutes and never even had a chance to order drinks. At the 25 minute mark we waived down a waiter and explained our situation. The waiter promised that 'Mary' would come take our orders shortly and then promptly disappeared. We waited 5 more minutes and walked out.I note that we were a 6 person group with two 8 year olds and an infant. So we were pretty obvious that we were there.Again this has happened twice where we were seated and then just ignored for 30 minutes until we left.Decent food but awful service.
I like to support local business so I found this place about three miles west of Short Pump. I was not disappointed. The food was delicious and "country cooking" as advertised. It was obvious this is a local favorite as the parking lot was full and the customers looked like return eaters.
