I highly recommend Cheng Du after one of our group suggested it for our monthly "Man Lunch". Try the steamed whole fish (striped bass), pork dumplings in chili oil, dry fried green beans, spicy wood ear salad, Piao Xiang popcorn shrimp, Zhangcha Tea-Smoked duck or hot spicy pork ribs. Tiger lager is excellent. In my opinion, this is the Sichuan equivalent of the splendid Cantonese restaurant, Full Kee. A true Asian cuisine treasure.
Cheng Du is Cheng Don’t. Food is lackluster. General Tso’s chicken was awful. Hot and sour soup tasted like it had maple syrup in it. Fried rice was bland. My family and I were sorely disappointed! Money wasted. Most of my food went into the trash. Definitely won’t be returning.
This was literally the best Chinese food I have ever had, anywhere. Everything came out quickly and our drinks were always kept full by our attentive server. The dumplings in chili oil were the best I've ever had. I wanted to try something new so asked our server for the Singapore noodles but made a little spicier... do NOT sleep on this dish. It was absolutely amazing, and the thoughtful server brought out some spicy chili oil (different than what came with the dumplings) on the side for me since he knew I liked heat... y'all if I could by this oil by the gallon I would in a heartbeat. The noodles were so good by themselves that I almost didn't use it, but once I did my whole world changed. My spouse says that the General Tso's chicken (a go-to comfort food) was indescribably good and that the egg rolls were some of the best. Please give this place a try next time, it is SO worth the trip out there. I will never get Chinese from anywhere else while I'm in Richmond.
Incredible! Best Chinese I've ever had in my life! No oily, or cooked in burnt oil...a correctly prepared and vast array of veggies in every dish ++ delicious amount of spiciness - dynamic. ♥️♥️♥️
I normally judge a Chinese restaurant by the basics. Fried rice wasn't the best and tasted a little like burnt oil. I also had something crunchy in my rice and can't figure out what it is. Looks like a rock or some cooked dirt or maybe something really burnt that came off another piece of equipment. Egg rolls tasted basic and lacking flavor and not even adding duck sauce made them any better. The fried dumplings where delicious and the sauce for them although a little on the way too salty side had a really good flavor to it. Definitely not giving this place a chance for obviously they are nasty and not hygienic for me to find something in my rice.
Been here a couple times now and it's easily my fav restaurant in RVA. The first time I had tears in my eyes for finally finding some authentic Sichuan food, been three years since I left Chengdu and this is the first real Chinese food I've found in USA.All the appetizers are excellent, my mom and sister love the eggplant fries. My favourite is the 沸腾鱼片, spicy goodness - but all their fish melts in your mouth. It's vegetarian and vegan friendly too, and most things can be substituted. The manager is also very social and friendly, gives good recommendations
This place is soooo good. The mapo tofu and Chengdu hotpot had an amazing level of numbing peppers. So good if you love authentic Sichuan food.
Really enjoyed this place. Most of the stuffs we ordered all came out really good. There wasn’t anything we didn’t like. The service was alright, I little slow on the good but it was worth it at the end. I would recommend ppl to this place if they like spices but if you can’t take spice at all then I don’t think this would be the place for you. They also use a lot of chili oil so if you don’t like too much oil this is also not a place for you.
The food was below average. We ordered Szechuan chicken stirfry it was flavorlessand so dry.The service was not good. It seems like they only cared for big parties.Also, the steamed rice was not freshly cooked..
Ordered 成都烤鱼(Cheng Du Chili Oil Grilled Fish) for pick up, we weren’t warned this dish has that much soup. It’s poorly packaged and a lot soup leaked in my car. I would give them 5 star if this didn’t happen today. Most dishes are above average, some are very delicious.
