Chose this place because it's open a little later than the others. We arrived 2 hrs before closing and we're paying the bill an hour before closing, but the staff were already cleaning up around us. They were vaping inside, playing music, and talking about their plans to party that night. It was awkward enough that I checked with the waiter to make sure we hadn't misread and they were closed, but he assured us they didn't close for another hour. Super weird vibe.
My wife and I had dinner here, we were seated at an already full table. I was sitting behind the chef! One of the reasons we like hibachi cooking is for the show. Meal was pretty good, but the chef seemed uninterested in his customers as though he was very distracted. We were given an upcharge for fried rice. Unbelievable! It seems to me that the rice is a big part of the show!! The server added an 18% service charge to what I think was already an over-priced meal, when my wife questioned this she was told they do this to everyone's check. Ridiculous! Especially when we were seated at a table that was clearly just a piece of wood added as a after thought.
Enjoyed watching chef prepare dinner and tasted GREAT. In an effort to extend my appreciation for dinner my attempt was multipled because an 18% gratuity had already been applied to the bill. My party included only 5 adultsPlease beware of added gratuity by simply reviewing your bill completely.
We ordered chicken and shrimp hibachi, I had the Buddha drink which was tasty, definitely will be ordering it again! Our chef was funny and the food was tasty! Kyoto is a Harrisonburg staple that stays busy!
We are 2 seniors who were seated w/7 members of one delightful family. The 2 small boys were very well behaved and laughed at our Chef's, the Owner's, antics along w/the rest of the table. The family has been coming here for 20yrs! Some items are done differently from other hibachi places but my filet mignon and my husband's scallops were EXCELLENT. Very efficiently run and clean. Yes, we'll go back again! Makes my mouth water just thinking about Kyoto! That perfectly cooked filet mignon knocked my socks off! So much better than any other steak chain restaurants!
Love this place. My wife and I visited 14 years ago on her birthday when we came to visit my family. We took our boys in tonight and they enjoyed it very much. The meat we ordered was cook perfectly, the staff were all very friendly, and the and plenty of space around the table. If I had anything negative to say, it was hot, but with the flat top right there it's to be expected. We can't wait to to go back, my boys has already asked can we go again on the next family night out!
Excellent food and usually great interactions. It seems better to go on busy nights rather than slow nights if you want a good show. The chefs are not nearly as entertaining when it is not busy.
The local hibachi near JMU has a great location and fun staff, but the food itself was not up to hibachi standard. The broth was lukewarm, salad overdressed, meat a bit tough and veggies small and mushy. This was the first time so will try again when in the area. The staff was super friendly and attentive. Worth a visit if you like hibachi.?
Harrisonburg is a small town. This place has great reviews, and I wonder if it's because of the contrast effect, that the reviewers don't have much else to compare the place to. The people were nice, and out server was great. And thee food was...OK. The reviews led me to expect that we were going to have an outstanding meal. I've been to many, many Japanese steakhouses, though, and this place was toward the bottom. The sushi I ordered was on the mealy side. The entrees were plain. Even the salad dressing was iffy. It wasn't lousy food; it was just average or slightly less than average food. But the reviews here led me to think we were in for a treat. We've definitely had much, much better.
Short wait. The chef was entertaining and food was delicious
