5 stars HOWEVER please don't forget to teach and follow up with the importance of interacting with the customers outside of "what can I get for you?" "Your total is..." I may be the only one left but I'm not allergic to hellos, how are yous, have a nice days, nor thank yous. Go back to the basics. Retract if you must. And follow up. I'll secret shop free of charge. It's not just about the bucks or speed of service. This I know can be taught.
I have been eating at Zaxby's since the late 90s when they stole the idea from a place called Guthrie's.My experience at this location was awful. It was only open for an hour by the time I got there, and you could tell that everyone there HATED their job SO MUCH. The way they spoke, the way they looked, the way they acted, the just absolutely miserable and unsmiling expressions. Oh my god it was so uncomfortable and generally unpleasant to interact with these people. Just awful. Not going back to this location.I also didn't receive the correct order. The receipt and the cost was correct, but not what's in the box. Whatever. Hopefully either something will change or someone will change their mind after reading this.Food still tasted fine. Probably would have tasted better with better and even remotely friendly customer service.
The chicken sandwich is not seasoned and tastes plain. Cobb salads have bacon but the past three times I've purchased it there was no bacon. Don't buy the desserts. They not only taste horrible but they're never fresh when I go there. I purchased a brownie once and it was so hard I could have broken a window with it. Needless, to say I threw it in the trash. I think they nuked it to no return. They also have slow service. Make sure you're not in a rush when you order from drive thru.
Newport News, VA location is filthy and always has a line wrapped around the building. The food is great, no problems there but the customer service is terrible. They never apologize for the wait, are always yelling back and forth at each other, and are obviously understaffed and overworked. Management needs to step up in this location. If I were the manager, I would be embarrassed of the lack of cleanliness and customer service.

ordered 2 orders of teriyaki wings. they put it all in one container and to much teriyaki sauce
Never have I ever had a drive thru get nothing right...will never come backI ordered a house salad with fried chicken and ranch. I got a salad with NO chicken, no toast and wrong dressing...I also ordered a spicy signature sandwich. I got a normal chicken sandwich with a piece of bacon on it...The manager was willing to rectify it when I called but when you are 20 min away already it doesn't really do much...
My first impression when i walked in was that it is clean and new looking. However, that was the best part of my experience here. The customer service was not that great except for the manager who was very friendly. Zaxbys as a business charges $0.25 per additional sauce. That doesnt sound bad until you order a 20 pc chicken tender and only get 4 sauces. They intentionally dont give you enough so you have to pay them for more. I saw three other people going back for more while I was there. All of them had to wait in line again to get more sauce. On top of this, nearly all of the drinks were out of syrup so everyone was going back to dump out their drinks and find something that has flavor. Lastly, my 20 pc tenders got bumped off the screen so they would have forgot about it had I not been standing right next to the counter for a long time. Thats where the shift manager (lady in gray shirt) came in and helped me out. She was nice and helpful.
It's like no one can count. Order a 5 piece tenders meal and we get 4, order a 20 piece we get 18. It happens very often and at this point we've given up on them. They rarely fill the sauce cups and recently stopped selling the larger cups of sauce. Salads aren't as fresh as they used to be. This place has truly gone down. It's disappointing because it's a great chain restaurant but this location is terrible.
Went there today service was horrible..About 6 young people all joking and laughing in the meanwhile the lobby is full and the dtiver through is backed up..Took me 20 min just to get a kids happy meal.. It's a shame that I have to drive all the way to Newport News Zaxby's to get good service..Where is or should I say where was management.
