I have been home three years, and I have heard so much about this restaurant before I came home and once I came home that they had some of the greatest cooking. Only for me to wait three years to finally go in order grilled liver with onions and gravy, white rice, macaroni and cheese and my second order was shrimp and grits with scrambled eggs and great. I'm going to be very very honest the liver and gravy was so disgusting no seasoning at all the gravy you could tell was can, the rice was very wet mushy and swollen, and the macaroni and cheese was very Bland very watery not even hold his consistency of real cheese. I would say the shrimp and grits were doable, but you can tell that it was rushed the Grits were not fully cooked. So I will honestly say and I did not even get my scrambled eggs I want honestly say I would never ever ever again go to Tommy's. And I was full because I see so many people go there, but I guess because it's convenient and local. But then to see the staff, the servers is definitely not seeing a lot about sanitation and hygiene also just being honest thank you
The quality, value and quantity of the food overwhelmed me. The catfish was big, I could not eat it all. My only regret is that I ony ate there once during my stay. Next year I will eat there at least 2-3 days.
Stopped for breakfast with my friend. The place was packed and we waited a short time for our table. Looked like they have won several awards for best breakfast...however I have to give my dish a thumbs down. I ordered chipped beef and gravy on toast. Mind you I have had this dish before and their version was not as good. The menu had a different description of the gravy. I would stop again but opt for a more traditional breakfast choice.
I really wish I would have went elsewhere this was very disappointing considering they have had great service in the past. First and for most how are they not going to take cards as a payment and only have a tiny paper sign posted at the door, they have a bigger sign posted saying to leave the door closed. The staff were very rude especially the old women cashing out orders. The server was polite but did not handle tables well at all would come with food one plate for each different table. Then the kicker that ensured I will not return, we are low staffed! Please bare with us! I understand a lot of places are struggling but there was 8 people serving all through the dinning area and they had plenty in the cooking area. Dennys and there four workers can handle just as much orders with the time I had to wait to be seated and served. Not to mention I didn’t receive half my order, and they still tried charging me for everything. Come on i understand being busy on the weekend but get it together.
Tommy's is that restaurant that has been around forever and you hope it's around for your great grandkids to enjoy.I had the gyro omelette and it was done perfectly. The waitress we had was very attentive to our needs. The other wait staff seemed courteous to their folks.You will want to bring cash. Honestly, I can't blame them for saying no to fees and percentages lost on every transaction.
I have never had such an unpleasant experience at Tommy's. Got seated right away. Drinks were brought quickly. That's when it went bad. 30 min to ORDER. 15 minutes for food, which was cold so obviously had been sitting, ready for awhile. There were a good number of people there but I've been there when it was busier and service was fine. This waitress spent a lot of time doing other things. It even took 10 minutes to get a box for the uneaten cold food. Had to go to the register to even get the checkThere was no tip for her and it will be a long time before I return.
It wasn't 2 minutes from when my order was put in to when I received my food. Extremely delicious and the servings took up the plate. Beyond great food for an affordable price. Oh the staff, is attentive & accommodating and so full oh character. I'll drive her from va Beach anytime.
They are busy all the time and only have two servers for the entire restaurant. They only take cash no credit card. The wait time was long to get our food.
The best place to eat ever. The best food I have ever had from a restaurant.. Just great wonderful tasting food. The staff were so very nice and very attentive to your needs. I am from Lynchburg. Va. and visited Hampton, Va. where Tommy's restaurant is. There is this one person ( employee) who stood out among the rest. A very tall man, employee that cleans tables as customers left. He was a very kind, attentive and a sweet man. He adds enjoyment to Tommy's Restaurant. I look forward to visiting Tommy's Restaurant again one day. It's the kind of restaurant you will never forget. Just amazing.
I'd give 10 stars if possible. First the atmosphere!!!just fantastic feels like family. A happy family. And the seafood is supreme! Fried clams ,shrimp, fish. Hush puppies so crunchy! Hope to visit again soon. Thanks for a terrific experience.
