While traveling down the road, we wanted some BBQ. I searched the area for reviews from another website). This place came up with good reviews so we went out of our way a little and stopped by. I even looked them up on their own website. The BBQ bun on their website shows it toasted and it looks different than a regular hamburger bun. That is not was given to us, I’ll explain later. This restaurant is located in a little strip shopping center. To start off, service was excellent. The staff greeted you when you walked in the door. The lady behind the counter was very friendly. The restaurant was clean, drinks were self-service. There was only one table of customers sitting in the dining area when we walked in and one other person getting to go food. We got ours to go. They charge you a fee if you use a credit card. This fee shows up on your bill, if you pay cash they say you get a discount. The fee is charged and then taken off the bill if you pay cash. The BBQ pork sandwich combo came with a side and a drink plus a small container of coleslaw. The side portions were small. The container the collard greens came in was smaller than to go sides I am used to. I thought the collard greens were bland. The BBQ sandwich was moist and was just okay. The bun does not look like the picture on their website. It was a regular hamburger bun. The brisket philly was so soggy it had to be eaten with a fork. The hand cut fries portion was ½ of the bag that they were placed in. Most of the fries were small tiny pieces but the ones that were bigger were soggy.
This was my first time ordering from this place. It definitely wasn’t the best, but it was decent. I had the St. Louis pulled pork and chicken tenders with baked beans, fries, and hushpuppies. The fries I should’ve taken back because they were just a greasy mess. The hushpuppies were super greasy on the outside and literally tasted like nothing. The rest of the meal was pretty good, however, I did have to add my own BBQ sauce to the pulled pork for a tastier bite. All in all, decent BBQ. Give them a try though! See what you think.
Great food at Portsmouth location. But they just hired a new counter lady and she is VERY RUDE and unfriendly. Not happy with how she speaks to customers.
Everything was as excellent as ever. The banana pudding is delicious and even better that mom or grandma can make.
I spent $63 on food for my family and myself and it was GROSS! Anytime children won’t eat Mac and cheese you know it’s bad! The greens seemed like they had been dumped out of a can! The chopper BBQ wasn’t the worst but nowhere near the way it has been in the past! ?

The restaurant is VERY clean and neat. The staff is friendly, polite and well groomed. We received our food quickly and it was presented neatly as well. The St. Louis sandwich was HUGE and my lunch partner said it was delicious. The hush puppies were good & the ribs were fair-good. They would have been EXCELLENT IF they hadn’t been overcooked. Part of my ribs had been so overcooked that it was like jerky! See picture below. I chose to have my sauce on the side & they were seasoned well. I absolutely love collard greens and green beans both of which were so bland that even adding hot sauce didn’t help! They could have been excellent also IF they had been seasoned better. Because the staff is so nice and the eatery is so clean I will return another time to try the St. Louis barbecue sandwich & I will review that as well. Thank you staff for being polite, professional and for keeping the restaurant clean. I appreciate your efforts.
Absolutely amazing food. We had ribs and the pulled pork BBQ sandwich last night. Best we’ve had in the area. Great people behind the counter and a comfortable cozy atmosphere. Will definitely be back!
The customer service has been fantastic during the trying times of being short staffed. Huge kudos to Maria for always being on top of things. Watching her train employees is a joy to watch, because she does it with such pleasure. Looking forward to the days of your restaurant being fully opened daily again.
