We stopped in for lunch on a Monday and they were surprisingly busy, but we were able to get a table right away. The bartender, Josh, took care of us and was great. We started with the mozzarella sticks that were excellent. They had an extra touch with some toppings. The south western wrap, Buffalo wrap, and shrimp BLT with the shrimp on the side were all excellent. We loved the addition side options with the sandwiches. I had the chili which had sausage and shredded chicken and all sorts of other goodies that made it great.

Delicious food!! This time I built my own sandwich and stayed for trivia! Josh's trivia is the best!

If I could eat their weekend brunch specials every meal, every day, for the rest of the year, I still wouldn’t have enough. Staff is always friendly - it can get packed on weekends but they make it work and do a great job. I’ve never had a bad experience here, I love their food and I love their $5 brunch drinks!

First time trying this place with the family and overall more like a 4.5 star experience. Service was very fast and attentive. We tried a cheese quesedilla, summer veggies hash, burger with fries, and crab cake sandwich with a tomato soup. Hash was very tasty but a little oily and the avocado that came with it was not ripe. Burger was good but the fries were a little too oily. Crab cake was good but it was missing some type of remoulade. Tomato soup was delicious.

Service was good food was okay. Some items weren't available on menu and not super flavorful. Based on reviews I expected the food to be more tasty.

Good food, friendly staff.Stopped by today for lunch. Sunken Well Tavern is a small, refreshingly unpretentious restaurant in a neighborhood in downtown Fredericksburg. So it was easy to swing by there after going to the farmer's market downtown. Our server was very friendly, prompt and attentive. We ordered Chorizo Shrimp and Grits and for myself, a salad with smoked salmon and Brussel sprouts on top of fresh greens. They have a very diverse menu. They clearly put a lot of thought and effort into their food...it's delicious. The atmosphere is friendly and casual. Will definitely go there again.

Great spot. Excellent ingredients make excellent food. Great selections on the menu. Great service. No frills type of spot that concentrates on the most important thing: the food!

We chose this restaurant for lunch because of its good TA reviews but more because our grandson wanted to visit the Fredericksburg National Civil War Museum, cemetery and battle ground, which are within walking distance. The outside is a bit run-down looking but we were glad that didn’t put us off from going in. We discovered more than just a conveniently located eatery near the museum. Instead we found a restaurant with character and good food. We thought the stuffed wild animals added color to the place and fit in with the age of the building. Better yet, the food was good! My husband had the crab quesadilla special, grandson enjoyed a classic cheeseburger and fries, and I had the NY steak salad. My NY strip was cooked exactly to my order/ preference and was juicy and tasty. The balsamic vinegar dressing, served on the side, was delicious over the steak slices, salad greens, feta cheese, and tomatoes. Grandson and husband enjoyed their choices. I especially liked that the menu had a variety of dishes to choose from. Our waiter was friendly and engaging and actively went around the pretty-full dining room checking on diners- -always a good sign an establishment cares about its customers. We’ve lived in northern Virginia for over 20 years and have stopped in Fredericksburg off I-95 many times for lunch, but we always drive into the main business area. Now that we’ve discovered this good, easy access restaurant we’ll know to come here next time.

Interesting older restaurant with great food and good service!

First time eating here and won't be the last. Food was amazing.
