I like this restaurant, but they are inconsistent and can be hit or miss. This can sometimes ruin the entire meal. Getting home with take out and discovering things were left out, as they’ve done to us more than once, can be an infuriating experience, for example. It seems that Peter Chang restaurants start out great and then decline after he presumably moves on to care for his other locations. His recipes are great, but the kitchen and service can hurt your experience. The “Chinese hot pot” flavor with the whole numbing pepper seeds is great and unique, but I wish the same flavor wasn’t used in nearly half the dishes. You could order a 3 course meal and have them all taste the same. The menu could keep this from happening but the descriptions are sometimes vague, I hate that.I love the soups, the hot pots, anything with fish, and the dry fried eggplant. Most anything on the menu could be good, but not 100% reliably.Be careful not to bite any of the whole Szechuan numbing peppercorns. They’re actually not pepper but the seed of an evergreen. Biting on one changes the way your tongue tastes for 20 minutes or more. Even water will taste bad and metallic after that. It will probably end your meal.
I came here for lunch with my family because we heard nice things. Our waitress was really nice and even played pretend with my toddler. We ordered our food ( 3 sesame chicken plates and orange chicken plate) and waited. Our food arrived in roughly 10 minutes and we were happy. Once I bit into my sesame a+chicken I noticed that it was a bit under cooked and didn't taste right. I told our waitress. Who apologized, and took our plates. She informed the manager of what was going on and that's when all hell broke loose. The manager then comes to our table and asked who ordered the sesame chicken. I said my daughter and I. She then yells at me, you just ordered food and waste it! You ignorant now we have to throw away! Then walked off,, throwing her hands up.I was actually shocked with how disrespectful and unprofessional she was.. When she walked by again, we tried to speak with her since she was the manager but she threw her hand up to our face and said. "Don't talk to me, talk to waitress. I too busy for you." At this point, I walked over to the waitress to tip her and asked for my bill so I could pay for the food we actually ate. Once paid we tried leaving and the manager stopped us yelling and then said she was calling the police. We were confused. She tells dispatch we were not trying to pay, not realizing we already did and had a receipt. She then yelled in my face and said yes the black girl try to leave with no pay on the phone. I told my kids to go to the car and showed my receipt and said, " we never said we weren't paying! We told you about the food!. " I also told her to take criticism and fix the issue instead of treating PAYING customers this way. I will never come this restaurant again. First last time EVER! FYI, other guest in the restaurant told her she was rude and her actions were unacceptable.
As someone who lived in mainland China for a decent while, this is as close to REAL Chinese food as you’re gonna get outside of some niche D.C. or Chinatown restaurants. Multi-course, high seasoned, rice bowls, turntables - the works. Not your neighborhood take out, but that will seem substandard after eating here. Courses can seem contradictory to western palates, but you’re wrong!
Did not want to let this day go by without giving Peter Chan (in Central Park) a review. Ok here goes... all day I have been wanting a combo Lo Mein?? meal from Peter Chan. So instead of calling the order in (bc they NEVER seem to have the order ready when you arrive 15-20 min later) I went straight to the restaurant. When I arrived the older Asian lady was at the front on the phone taking an order (I was on the phone also). She was on the phone I'll say a good 5-6 minutes with the same customer... mind you I was the only one waiting to put an order in. As I'm waiting for her to get off the phone in walked a group of about 6 Caucasians. Finally after completing her order on the phone as she hung the phone up I removed my phone from my ear thinking she was going to greet me, NOPE that did Not happened she overlooked me and addressed the Caucasians that walked in after me ????Asking them is this to go or stay? I immediately said, " uhhh you don't see me standing here?!?!" She replied, "you was on your phone." I said, I took my phone down the same time you hung up." Then the guy behind said, "she was here before us." The Asian lady asked may I take your order?" Me...NO YOU MAY NOT!!! She is rude and disrespectful so Needless to say as long as she's there I will NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!! It was the terrible customer service for me. Oh and I am a brown skin person. ✌?
We were here on Chinese Lunar New Years 2022. Year of the Tiger.Service was quick and efficient. The food was delicious!!!I chose Peter Chang due to a review that said the chef will make anything on the menu gluten free. It's true, except for egg rolls.Fried eggplant appetizer was crisp and delicious. My son shared them due to the big portion. It rightly gets it's 2 chili symbol for heat! YumMy entre was the shrimp with honey and pecans. Crispy jumbo, sweet ,fresh firm shrimp with a perfect amount of subtle creamy honey sauce with sweet toasted whole pecan halves.I have eaten countless shrimp dishes in my life and this taste was beyond all others. 5 star!We will go back often. Once we are regulars I will mention repadding the booth seats
Worst lo-mein ive ever had in my life! Chicken was overcooked and rubbery. Hard to chew and swallow. And noodles were bland. I ordered egg rolls and they gave me spring rolls instead, and they were COLD! It also took them over 40 minutes to make my food when I was told it would take 20.
Everything was good ?. Not crowded, might just make this a Christmas tradition.
Everything was amazing. And everything can be made gluten free and celiac friendly. Wait staff is excellent. The portions are huge. We had the duck which was awesome. Must try if you are in the area.
Food was very good! Portions were large and it was very fresh- it was not the lunch leftovers overly oiled to make it seem soft and new! The shrimp were cooked perfectly an the rice was fluffy in the shrimp fried rice dish. The only thing I would say to change up is with carry out, more than one duck sauce please for two orders of spring rolls. Other than that , thumbs up!
If you are a fan of spicy food this place is a must! Duck in the stone bowl is amazing! One of my favorite places!
