I had to go on the Med diet and was restricted to what I could eat. So I googled best Greek restaurant in Fredericksburg, VA and Parthenon came up. So we tried it. Google got this one right. The food is excellent. All homemade. I always get the Greek salad large with gyro meat. It is so good . We got the pizza there just today and it was just wonderful. The folks that run it are so friendly and make you feel at home and the store is just a trip back to the 1980s. So to all our Colonial Beach friends if you want good fresh homemade healthy food, the next trip to the doctor at MWH, go up the hill to the old Park and Shop. The Parthenon is located near the car wash and Allmans. You won’t be disappointed, ever.
Still here after all these years. Still run by Manny and Sophia. My wife and I had our first date here 29 years ago. The food is still fresh and delicious. I forgot to take pictures of the food because, well, I was too excited that it was still owned and run by the same people. That is a testament to the food here. Made with love. Sophia said to us she can’t believe they have been doing this so long. Again, when work does not feel like work, you add your pride and your passion then end result will be positive. The decoration has barely changed since the 80s and 90s. Some may be turned off. Don’t be. You will be rewarded. We came at early lunch hour and there was a good turnout while we were there. The Meatball Parmigiana I got was made fresh, hot and delicious. My wife had souvlaki and the pork was tender and delicious. We decided to get 2 gyros to go because everything was as we remembered. We even got baklava for desert. I did remember to take a photo. Sweet but not overly sweet and still delicious.
40 years and still going strong, this Mom and Pop operation chugs along with various familiar menu that tastes delicious. Today's 12" pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms and lunch special of cheese ravioli in tomato sauce and baked cheese (with delicious garlic bread and Greek salad) more than pleased our palate. The owners are so personable and delightful as well as obviously proud of their restaurant.
While we moved to this area nearly three years ago, we just recently came across this place and I am sure glad we did. What a wonderful hidden gem that’s been going strong for 40 years! Wonderful couple that makes it a great, quiet, quaint place serving out delicious dishes. I do really look forward to our next visit here. First time was a wonderful experience.
Was not sure what to expect. We walked in and it felt like we stepped back in time to old Europe. We ordered the meatball parm and gyro platter. Both entrees were awesome and lightning fast!! What makes this place even better is the service. The owners are so nice! I thought I was talking to my sweet mother… she asked if I needed an extra napkin. I kindly said no but she brought me one and said “you gonna need it.” She told me to finish my Greek beer because it was good for me. It was excellent! The cook (the server’s husband) came out to clean some tables and she let us know the busboy was doing a good job. And we all laughed. As we left, she was so gracious we were there. She asked us to come back with her grandma-like smile. How can we say no…. We are going back tomorrow!
I had a craving for Greek food and discovered a tiny Mom and Pop restaurant called the Parthenon. The owners were gracious and welcoming, ready to help with selections and forgiving of my terrible pronunciations. The place is not fancy, the tables and benches are worn, but there's a homey feel to the atmosphere. I loved the spanikopita and the dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) appetizers, I could make a meal of the flaky feta and spinach stuffed pastry and the rice stuffed grape leaves. DH had a Greek salad with gyro meat, said it was excellent! I had the moussaka which was a bit sweet, but still delicious! I would recommend this place to anyone craving the real deal Greek food!
We had excellent mousaka and souvlaki is a quiet restaurant still run by the founding couple. Well worth the stop.
The food was wonderful, the atmosphere was awesome! Very rustic and authentic feeling. The perfect setting for a first date or a casual lunch out with a friend, either way! Not crowded at all. This place is a hidden gem. Will definitely go back.
Do NOT be fooled by the modest interior and exterior. This is a "Don't judge a book by its cover" type of places.I was introduced to this place by a friend while I went to MWC right across the street. This place quickly became my favorite restaurant in Fredericksburg. The place has a very cozy feel and it hasn't be redecorated in about 30 years which adds to the charm. Don't let the age fool you, it is super clean and well maintained inside. It is a family owned restaurant and they will quickly learn their regulars and they are always friendly.Their gyros are out of control good and you will quickly forget that delivery pizza even existed. Their pizza is hands down the best you will get in the area and is still in my top 2 favorite pizza places ever. I basically haven't ever had anything bad on the menu, and I've probably tried almost all of it. Their baklava is great as well. There is a reason why this place has been there forever, try it out and you will understand!
Everything we ordered was fantastic from the flaming cheese to the pizza and then baklava. It's family owned and ran. Our server is also the owner and she spoke to you like family. Not to mention she's got jokes! We definitely will be back. Lived here almost 17 years and I'm sad I just found out about it!! If you go, you won't be disappointed!
