Our family has been visiting the Duck House for decades and our love for the food and people span across generations. This is one of the only places I know of to get egg tarts (my favorite) around. Their dim sum is delicious and the peppers steak dish is second to none. We will continue to visit for (hopefully) generations to come.
Not a very bad place, but not very good either. The duck tasted good, but it was almost cold and too oily. The pork dumplings were fairly good. Some of the staff were friendly (my waiter was friendly), others not so much. When I asked for fresh grated or sliced ginger to put on my dumplings, my waiter had to ask the manager whether or not it was okay to give me ginger, because apparently the ginger is not given during dim sum hours. I always love adding fresh ginger to my dumplings, and luckily I got to have some! The jasmine tea was good, but too many leaves were going into my tea when I poured it from the pot and into my cup. I also found the food to be overpriced, especially for what it was. So certainly not the best, but not the worst either.
I come to this restaurant now and then. I absolutely love their food here. The owners and staff are sweet people and really try their hardest. I came in on Easter Day, which was pretty hectic, understandable. It was my first time going during Dim Sum hours where they push the cart around. Sadly every single dish was cold that day. I will continue to come back, probably not during Dim Sum time.
Beware - Mark's will overcharge you when you call in an order and pick it up. I think they may be charging the inflated prices from the Delivery Apps, rather than the menu prices.
Food is ok. But the time my friends and I arrived, it was very busy (12-1 p.m, Sat). Couldn't get the menu, just grabed the food and dishes from the food cart.
It’s a cozy place. However the food can sometimes be hit or miss. Not very consistent.A few times I have ordered their duck and it came out a bit cold. The stir fried rice noodles are sometimes good sometimes not so good. Over all the service is friendly and the atmosphere is good.
My favorite spot for dim sum in DMV! As a person who lived in China for 18 years, I can verified that they have the best dim sum and Chinese barbecue in the area. The staff there is friendly and efficient. One of them gave me a knife for me to cut the lobster without me asking. My only disappointment is their piggy looking lava bun. The look is cute but the taste is not so good compared to other dim sum dishes they have.
Our family enjoyed the food here! Was looking for dim sum for dinner around Washington DC and after reading some reviews, decided to drive cross state border instead! 14 minutes later we arrived (from Foggy Bottom) - smooth traffic and easy parking here. The fish maw soup was awesome and the dim sum was also good. We had a noodle with pickled turnip which was a bit in the salty side but we ordered pickled turnip so what do we expect?!Service was good and I recommend this place.
This is still quality dim sum and the best one in NOVA. Service and food quality have been consistent over the years. My friends and I came here on a busy Saturday AM. Luckily the wait was a little under 30 minutes. We ordered the usual duck, egg tarts, rice noodles, har gow, and shumai. You can tell the food quality here is great when it comes out piping hot and the coloration is just perfect. Also watch most of the carts. Usually after 1 go around most of the food is missing from the cart. We found ourselves eating a little over an hour since everything was just so tasty and we haven't had great dim sum in a while. Service here is also a plus. If you haven't seen a specific dish in the carts you can order it with a server as well. There is plenty of parking and my friends and I will definitely be back.
For years we have taken family and friends to MDH (now MTBDH) for dim sum, sometimes filling big round tables and have also gone to buy ducks, supposedly their specialty, and mostly enjoyed it. Perhaps Covid has pushed them to skimp. Food is always good. But, at dim sum we noted when we would choose a plate, they would say we'll heat it up. (Don't do it!). When it comes back from heating it has less food on it than when we chose it. We called it disappearing Dim Sum, DDS. Then, recently we bought two ducks for New Years. Ducks used to fill two entire styrofoam containers, neatly aligned as it had been cut. This time we could not see the duck chopper guy and what came back were styrofoam containers with random pieces of duck scattered about and filling maybe half the containers. (Always be able to watch the duck chopper guy to see what he is up to, which you can't do at MTBDH). So, either they gave us very small ducks and/or they removed prime pieces of breast and leg meat. Sad, we'll stop going there. Plenty of other places around DC to get good duck, even less expensive, and where you can watch the guy chop it so no monkey-business occurs. And, there are some excellent dim sum places around DC, especially near Rockville and Bethesda--we'll start patronizing those instead.
