My husband & I stopped for a sandwich and fries . We split the so called Jumbo sandwich . The sandwich was very small , skimpy order of fries , and we paid to get an order of slaw , which was basically the size of a miniature Dixie cup . I have had more food when ordering a kids meal at other establishments. And our bill was $20. The BBQ was ok but the portions are a joke . We won’t be back .
Saw this place in a best of the best Virginia BBQ competition a few years ago and I finally had an opportunity to stop. Service was slow and the food was not good. Lots of employees just standing around taking little personal breaks. Apparently the big table when you first walk in by the soda/tea station is where the employees put their drinks and food while at work and randomly munch on stuff in the middle of service. I ordered the two meat dinner; brisket and pulled pork with Mac and cheese and baked beans. Pork was edible but the brisket was the worst I’ve ever eaten and the sides where…meh! Back to the brisket, if I were to guess, their brisket is nothing more than a corned beef that they soaked in water to get the salt out and then smoked with an unknown wood and zero salt and pepper or rub. Unfortunately I don’t remember which place this restaurant came in, in the competition, but it was probably last. Steer clear!!!
Our first time here, it was delicious! I had the 2 meat dinner with chopped pork and smoked chicken fries, sides were Mac n Cheese, bk beans and hush puppies! Service was great, as well as atmosphere!
Got takeout AND dine-in, hence the $$$ amount chosen below. Still eating leftovers a week later. Haven't eaten many things that were more perfectly smoked than these ribs. And the brisket. THE BRISKET!!!! In the interest of full disclosure, the slaw and tater salad are a bit bland (and dry!) but the baked beans are a perfect complement to the meats.
Went there for my Brother's Birthday. I got the Chopped BBQ plate with 2 sides, I got plenty of BBQ, hush puppies, mac n cheese and baked beans. I tried the BBQ sauce and liked the medium original vinegar sauce the best. There were 6 of us and it the bill wasn't much at all for the amount of food we got. We had good service even though they were short staffed. It just took them a little long for us to get our food, but it was during dinner rush and they were short staffed. We were going to go to Outback Steakhouse but the wait time was a hour and a half, and Kickback Jack's had a wait time of a hour. We were immediately seated when we got to Checkered Pigs and saved more money eating there instead of at Outback.
We were hungry and had a taste for barbecue so the wife suggested the checkered pig. Upon arrival the drive-thru was very busy and the dining room wasn't too bad so we decided to go in to place our order. The cashier was extremely courteous and war a very big smile. Her attitude was amazing and she was very knowledgeable of the menu, and most importantly we felt unrushed as we decided on what to order, she even made suggestions. The food was very good as usual although the fries could have been a lot hotter, however, we do live about 10 minutes away but they shouldn't have been that cool by the time we got home. Overall I was very pleased with the customer service and the food. I highly recommend visiting the checkered pig to fill your hunger needs.
The customer service was top notch. However, the brisket was horrible. Maybe my expectations are too high, but the beef brisket small plate which is a little over 10 came with three small pieces of brisket that was so cold, dry, and no flavor. I will say that their collard greens are the best I've ever had.
Food was very good. Price was fair. However it was cold in there the day we were there. Should have had more heat inside so food would not get cold before you finish eating.
Very fast service and delicious breakfast food!
Breakfast was delicious. Everything served was cooked perfectly. The eggs, potatoes, pork and toast looked good and tasted even better. Our server was so polite throughout our meal.
