This review is based on one visit. Chose this restaurant based on reviews and had an outstanding dinner. Very polite signs asked that staff be treated kindly (I happily obliged!) and allow people to wear masks if they chose. Wearing a mask is still important to me and I was relieved to see the signs up. I ordered Volcano and Rainbow rolls. They were beautiful-looking and tasted like they were made with love. There was care in every detail— from the orchids delicately placed on the plate, to the wonderful blend of mild spice, crunch, and cool avocado. Warm tea complemented the meal beautifully and the Kit Kat bar at the end was a lovely touch. Servers happily produced an itemized bill when I requested. All in all and excellent dining experience!
It was good, minus the server never returned my change after paying in cash. I never stated “keep the change”, it was assumed that I was giving it to him (a 25% tip)…while I intended to be nice and give him this exact tip, I did not appreciate change not being returned to me to leave the tip myself out of choice. I did not have time to make a situation out of it as I needed to return to work.They are also the not affiliated with the 7 YamaChen’s Sushi across Hampton Roads, very confusing.
I ordered take out from here based on several reviews (a lot of the reviews said this place was fantastic). I ordered the the lunch bento box which had 2 sushi rolls (one was the Hawaii roll and the other was the Candy Cane Roll - both listed as favorites on the menu). I couldn’t tell the difference between the rolls based on the menu description, and one of them tasted weird to the point I couldn’t eat it. The sushi nigiri was dry, and the miso soup was flavorless. I usually love miso soup, but I had to throw that one in the garbage. The staff was nice, the restaurant itself is pretty small and looked very clean. They were busy when I picked up my order, and the dine-in customers looked pretty happy and content with what they were eating. However, based on my take-out order this restaurant would not be my top choice.
Everything we had here were so delicious. Without exaggerating, this is probably one of the best places I had Sushi in the US. The baby octopus were delicious and tender, and a must try. The staff were very polite and kind. The decor is quite exquisite as well. We are glad that we stopped here on our trip to Virginia Beach!
I was craving sushi and didn’t know where to go, so, I stopped in here. The service was impeccable and the food was so great! If you’re looking for sushi to hit the spot, definitely give them a try!
Pleasantly surprised and very impressed with the service and the sushi. We ordered 6 rolls and they brought it to the table on a boat and each one was delicious. Absolutely must try.
This was a staple while my wife and I were stationed in VA. Anytime we wanted sushi it was never a question where we would go. Service was awesome every time and often times we would get an extra roll on the house! We will miss this restaurant dearly. Thank you Yama!
Best sushi place around. Whether it's dine in or take out, their service and food is amazing. Most recent visit (April 22, 2022) I picked up a platter of sushi. They added sushi rolls on the house to my order, and it was all so delicious. I brought it to the Richmond area for family because they love it so much. I wish I would have taken a picture of the platter tray. It was so pretty, especially with the flower they added in the middle. Love Yama Sushi!! Thank you for always a great experience! Will be returning soon.
Yama used to be great, but at this rate, they'll be out of business soon. I paid $60 for two small styrofoam boxes of food. Their portions have gotten very small. Bye, yama. You should've maintained your previous standards. What a shame. I'd give no stars if it was an option. I'm not even upset about the missing freebie they used to give out.-previously very loyal customer.
Can’t go wrong here! Whatever you order, it’ll be made with high quality fresh ingredients and delicious. And the service is ALWAYS great!!
