I have been to Surf Rider in Hampton, years ago. It was fabulous. Grateful drinks delicious food.I went to the Chesapeake location and was very disappointed. Nort only did it have the omniounse of a Cafe. But the food was less than desirable . Penny size scallops. My steak was nothing but gristle and tendons. The broccoli was good. And one of the best Bloody Mary's I've ever had.

I ordered the broiled seafood platter consisting of flounder, shrimp, and scallops for a healthier option, and mashed potatoes and gravy and fried okra as sides. The server was pleasant and highly recommended the fried okra. The food was brought out fast and was hot. However, the meal was disappointing. I am not used to flavorless food and that is what I got. I could see the seasoning but couldn't taste it. The best part of the meal was the brown gravy on my mashed potatoes as well as the tartar and cocktail sauces. The restaurant is dated and could use some upgrades. My overall experience was just ok.

I ordered my meal to go. Phone conversation was professional and to the point. When I showed the waitress was very pleasant but unfortunately my food was not ready. No big deal. Had a great conversation with one of the locals. When my food was handed to me I immediately noticed the strongest fish smell. Not trying to put much stock into it because I did order fish but boy that smell just kept penetrating the air to the point I question was this seafood good to eat. I wanted it so bad I was willing to take that change now I fear my stomach is going to pay me back for it. Anyway, please take note of the food you serve. Fish will always have a smell but it should not smell putrid.

While waiting for my friend to arrive, I ordered a drink. When I told the server (Lauren D) that I was disappointed in my drink, she quickly offered an explanation and insisted on preparing another. The 2nd was quite good. After she arrived, my friend enjoyed hers as well. Our appetizer of steak bites was tasty. My friend enjoyed her fish and chips. My oysters were lightly friend and sweet, and did not require cocktail sauce. They were delicious. My two sides were mashed potatoes and a salad. Both were quite good, the salad larger than I expected. I did order a second drink, an old fashioned. It was average. The service was excellent. This was my first time here. I do plan on returning and would recommend it to anyone. This place is more than just a typical southern fried seafood restaurant.

Ordered a take out meal and it was wonderful. French fries like home made and cole slaw delicious too. SHRIMP WERE PERFECT.

We do a late lunch at Surf Rider 2 or 3 times a month. The food and service is always exceptional. I love their fried flounder, it is golden brown, most and flaky. Cooked to perfection. I have tried just about everything on the menu and enjoyed every meal. The staff has been challenged from covid problems, but work very well as a team. They are amazing!!!

Visited on 12/23/21 for my sisters birthday with a party of 20. My nephew was not satisfied with his menu selection. The manager refused to allow him the opportunity to exchange it for another menu item without having to pay for both menu selections. The manager was very rude, unprofessional, and ultimately made a racial comment that implied our group would send back multiple items and the restaurant would loose money. I will NEVER patronize this establishment and suggest no one else does either. My sister’s Birthday celebration was ruined.

Went for lunch service was very nice, but above all the food was delicious. All four of the meals we ordered were excellent. Will most assuredly return.

In-laws go to place!! Super service! Great sizeable portions. Fish & Chips are the best!! Super-sized!!

Great food and very friendly servers! Loved the scallops
