Mister Jim's is an original tenant of Wilson Village Shopping Center at the corner of South Battlefield Boulevard and Johnstown Road in Chesapeake. They have been a staple of the Great Bridge community since 1972. To stay in business for fifty years they have obviously been doing a lot of things right. They've managed to adapt with the changing times over the years and greatly expand their menu offerings from their original twelve items. They now offer everything from submarine sandwiches (including Philly-style), burgers, gyros and deli-style sandwiches, square pan pizzas, salads, boneless wings, appetizers and soft drinks to cookies and more. They offer indoor dining at comfortable booths and outdoor dining at tables under cover of a roof. There is no table service indoors or out. You place your order at the counter then pick it up at the same counter after they notify you via pager it's ready. At my last visit there were no paper menus available but there are large LCD menu screens overhead. Staff is always friendly and professional. On my last visit, they were very busy and it took about thirty minutes for my order to be completed. I didn't complain because I could see how busy they were and how hard everyone was working. As the young lady handed me my subs she apologized for the delay and offered me a free cookie. I really appreciated the gesture and my wife and I really enjoyed the cookie.I have patronized Mister Jim's many times over the years, mostly orders for delivery to my job but occasionally I'll swing by the restaurant and pick up something to take home. The food is always fresh and delicious. Some of my favorites are the Cajun Chicken Sub, Mister Jim's Special Sub, Tuna and Cheese Sub, Chesapeake Jubilee Sub, Sloppy Joe Sub and City Hall Burger. I also love the fresh cut fries and the onion rings. They have a nice variety of cookies, they are huge and really delicious. My favorite is the lemon blueberry cookie but I don't see it on the menu now so I don't know if they still offer it or not. Other cookies I love are the white chocolate macadamia nut and oatmeal raisin. Cookies are sold singly, in packs of three or by the dozen. They're all fresh and delicious. While writing this review I realized I have never tried the pizza at Mister Jim's. I'm not sure why I've never tried it but it is something I will definitely have to do soon.

First Gyro of my life. Absolutely delicious!!

A true icon of not only Great Bridge, but of all of Hampton Roads, and there's a reason for that: it's one of the best sub shops in the H.R.! I've lived in the area for nearly 5 years, and there's not a taste quite like Mister Jim's! Their subs are always cooked hot and ready and on time with quality bread, meats, and cheese! I always order a classic meatball and cheese or pepperoni pizza sub, and it never disappoints! Of course they have more than just subs, they also serve delicious fresh cut salted fries, pizza, desserts, and drinks to satisfy everyone! The staff are friendly and the dining area is nice and clean! Some feedback I must address is that it can get pretty crowded often, but you can order your food online! Overall, if you're in the mood for a sweet sub shop, come on to Mister Jim's! You won't be disappointed!

I can’t believe I paid $7.49 for this! They’re way smaller now! And 2 of them are so small that when they cooked them at the normal temperature they became hard! Super blowed! Especially since I didn’t checked them before I drove back to Hampton.

My husband and I had a rare hour to go out to eat sans kids and decided to give Mister Jim's another try as we saw no diners inside and figured we could be in and out within the hour. Boy were we wrong. We both ordered subs, a large fry, and cookies. They did advise me that my sub would be a 20 minute wait on the grill, I was fine with that. FIFTY minutes later I finally had to ask where my order was because we had to leave to pick up our kids. They finally finished my order and we had to take it to go. Opened the fries to eat in the car on the way to pick up the kids...it was obvious the fries were made immediately upon ordering and sat in the Styrofoam container sweating for the 50 minutes while my sub was prepared...it was a giant soggy WET pile of fries! After getting the kids I tried my sub, the Very Very Sloppy Joe. Three hard crusty sub bites in I finally hit the meat and it was so...lackluster. I guess what they call Sloppy Joes here is a bit different than how we do Sloppy Joes in the Midwest. All the food just felt like a disappointing, lackluster, pile of calories just sitting in the pit of our stomachs. No refreshingly satisfied feeling you should get when eating out. We wished we had just gotten McDonald's instead...what does that tell you? Overall I don't understand the hype about this place. I think people want to believe it's a good local sub and pizza shop and they want to give their money to them as opposed to Subway or Pizza Hut, but the place just doesn't deliver on the hype. This is all written taking Covid staffing shortages and supply issues in consideration - our previous experience here was years before the pandemic and it was just as bad and there were more employees in the building than customers so I don't believe staffing was an issue. Give it a try if you wish...there's just too many options in Hampton Roads to consider giving this place yet another chance after two bad experiences. Our bill was $25 for two half subs, a large drink, a large fry, and 3 cookies.

Good food, I love the subs, but I was just there today. December 29 I order a chicken Philly all the way. Come find out that they put American yellow cheese on the chicken Philly, no no no, that is a no no. I asked for provolone on my chicken Philly, the cashier responded that will be a .59 cent up charge. I said what! can you believe that,

Tried this place for the first time. I was disappointed to see that half of my sub didn't even have enough meat on it to fill the bun. Then I ordered it with no mayo and guess what, it had mayo. The cheese was not cooked with the steak, instead it was placed on the bread not melted. On top of that, it didn't taste like much of anything but bread and mayo. Wasted $25 and I'm mad because they were a 20 min drive for me.

I love Mr Jim’s and have been going there for years. Don’t get me wrong but your food is delicious and have excellent service. But this tall large heavy set woman with short blonde hair has been really rude! At first ok, she’s having a bad day. Then I come back a couple weeks later and she takes my order and I asked politely no mayo. So then she takes my money, rolls her eyes and shakes her head. Then proceeds to talk to another employee. She doesn’t have very good customer service at all. With that kind of an attitude, she will bring your business down. If you want to keep her, Maybe she needs to be put in the back where she doesn’t have to deal with customers. I’m so disappointed and unfortunately my family will not be coming back.

I ordered online and when I picked up my order, I realized how busy Mr. Jimm's was. They weren't even taking any more orders because they were so busy (such a successful business!!). After waiting a while I got my food and once I got home I realized it was cold. Being frustrated and tired, I became really annoyed and called to complain (I was cranky, y'all). The manager was so awesome! He explained how busy they were and how their online order system cannot relay to customers when they are too busy to keep up with the promised process times. He offered to credit me the amount of my order for a future order. That was it. The manager was super helpful and patient. I am not writing this to promote ways to get free food. I want to praise Mr. Jimm's for taking care of their customers and getting me out of my bratty mood. Y'all work really hard and I am sorry for being a brat.

My husband was in there tonight picking up dinner, there was an older lady who I guess had ill fitting pants on that fell down, and another customer felt the need to say something rude to her. Your cashier refused to take his order after that, and that just stood out to me so much. In the crazy times we live in, where there is so much chaos, and turmoil going on, it warmed my heart to see someone take a stand for someone when they didn’t even have to. That really shows a lot of character. Will definitely keep coming back.
