Went in on a Monday for the $8 Blue Plate Lunch Special and was not disappointed.Generous sized slice of meatloaf, studded with yellow & red peppers, served with real mashed potatoes (with several large chunks that remained unmashed as proof) and green beans. The beans appeared to be from a can & I was initially disappointed, but with my first bite came the delightful tang of vinegar that far too few folks know to add to green beans. The one negative was the amount of pepper in the gravy but I can overlook that given the quality of the potatoes.We'll be going back some Wednesday to try the fried chicken.
We were in the area for business and stopped here for dinner on a Friday evening. It wasn’t busy, it was around 5:30 PM, unfortunately service was still running behind. After finally a long awaited appetizer that we enjoyed, we got our drinks. Our other meals were lukewarm-mush at best. Not sure if we were here on a bad night, just wasn’t the best first impression for us.
Fantastic food and service. Made my wife's birthday dinner spectacular. Both entrees had incredible levels of flavor and composure. The steak was perfectly seasoned and the scallop St. Jacques was topped with a heavily layered puff pastry that was both delicate and flaky; as expected. My wife has already told nearly everyone and I'm positive we'll be going back soon enough.
Sunday, 15 May 2022. This was our first visit (first visit was the food was not well prepared and over priced) in about 6 years. We'd been advised that there had been significant menu changes and were looking for an enjoyable meal with great company. Company was great but food was a Big disappointment. There we two servers for our group of approx. 30 people and they did a great job. Timely ordering of before dinner beverage, placing food orders was timely and efficient as well as removing dishes after dinner. Meals, fried soft shell crab , extremely salty. Seafood Pasta, the pasta was under cooked and stuck/lumped together- sea scallops were very good, lump crab OK. Both had a cup of crab soup which was extremely salty, wife unable to eat--brought home diluted with milk and was edible. We will not be going back. Again, food was grossly over priced.
Group dinner, had the shrimp & grits - very savory and not the traditional version I am accustomed to - they were ok. Colleagues had the tuna, ribs and pizzas and were pleased. Service was good, accurate but a tad slow. Cocktails were very good but very limited craft and domestic beer selection. Good atmosphere and clean.
My first visit here! I ordered the clam strip basket for lunch. It was very good. See the pic! Hannah was my server. She was very attentive and nice. My only con is the hostess Brie (“like the cheese” as she came and told me unsolicited after I asked Hannah her name) not treating me with care nor seating me in a timely manner. I walked in. Needed a table for one. She asked was a table okay? I told her I’d prefer a booth and I spotted a booth. She said it’s not available so I said I’d wait. I waited and more people came in. Still no one in that booth. She talks to another employee quietly. So a few minutes later she said “I can sit you there but it’s going to be a wait” … no problem. So I sit down, there’s no wait. I enjoyed my meal. Once I got my check to pay and tip. I asked Hannah the hostess’ name and she provided that. 2 minutes later I get a surprise visit from Brie to clarify her name is like the cheese and that she knows I’m mad at her. I’m not mad just disappointed in her service alone. She said we just cut servers. It’s 2p on a Friday and it’s beautiful outside… I understand she’s not the manager but a table for one… you made that difficult for no reason Brie. Thanks for the chat though girl. Overall I enjoyed my food, atmosphere and service besides the hostess.
First time there. Plenty of parking and restaurant was clean. Employees friend. Great food. Only ask would be the server came back to get order in a timely manner as took a while to put in order after she brought the drinks but other than that, really enjoyed it. Will be back again when in the area.

walked in from the obx with my family, where we love black Pelican and service is always amazing, and the hostess didn't even acknowledge us til I greeted her, she was very rude and acted like we were bothering her,, when I asked how long of a wait there was all she could say was, I don't know, they just sat down, been in the service industry for over 20 years and understand people having bad days, but she just acted as if we were bothering her, quickly walked out and walked across the parking lot where the hostess greeted us with a smile and a " how can we help you"
