Since we moved from Texas to the coast of NC we have been dying for good, flavorful, food along with descent service which is both mostly non existent here. We have especially been missing Tex-Mex foodso after a google search for something within a day trip driving range, I found Abuelo’s in Chesapeake, Va We decided to make the 4hr one way trip & we were NOT disappointed!!! Omg this place is FANTASTIC!! The food was so good & the portions were big which is what you want when you dine out at a great restaurant. We still ordered way too much food since we have been dying for this so we had lots of take home to enjoy the next day. Along with the delicious food was the absolute best service!! Our server Haley was AMAZING!! She was so friendly & attentive & took great care of us the entire visit! In addition to Haley, the manager Vince made us feel like we were regulars/old friends.He came by to check on us a couple of times throughout our visit & each time we had the best conversations with him. This place is what the hospitality business is all about & the majority of restaurants could definitely take lessons from this location!! We are already planning our next trip up to eat!! Thank you guys so much! You really made our 4hr drive up there worth it!! Keep up the amazing work!!
We were quickly seated before the dinner hour rush. Service was fairly fast, and the food was good. Try the potatoes instead of rice…they are great.
I was in town visiting my dad. We had just got back from the mountains from a memorial for my mom. We used to go here with my parents. My husband is from Texas and we introduced them to the restaurant couple years ago. My husband loves the food as it’s the closes to what he gets at home. We were placed at the same table we ate at with my mom. The waiter not knowing this . We had a great waitress and was very polite and helpful with questions we had. The food was delicious as always. I have never had anything that I didn’t like.
The restaurant was very clean and our host was very kind and welcoming. We ordered the Enchiladas and they were not good. Our plates were very hot as if they were microwaved. The Enchiladas were of store bought frozen quality. The refried beans were very dry (happens in my experience when you microwave them). The food I saw other people had looked very appealing so I was surprised with my food quality. I don't like that I paid $25 for what felt like was microwaved. I would like to give a second chance based of what I saw others had, but will probably not be coming back. Again, Our host was great so thank you for that.

Abuelo's is a favorite. They have a lunch menu. There are sides on the menu however you can substitute sides. I always substitute for Charro beans. The service is good. If it's busy I'll try not to sit in the bar area. I like just about everything on the menu. The Sea Bass is a favorite. I don’t order the topping for it now. Just lemon. In the past I have added the toppings. They were good. Abuelos is delicious. The wait staff is always excellent to us.
Another fine dining experience!! Mama made the beans, I swear!! The wait staff is on point and courteous. We were forced to set on another area, our usual was El Ocupado, but to our party's delight we had a great tour guide in the travels of Tex-Mex cuisine. I'll be back and bring friends. And thanks to Kirsten, she needs a raise.!!!!
The best food, drinks and service and super clean. We go about once a month and we have never been disappointed. We also got engaged there 9yrs ago. I left my phone this last time and my husband got a friendly call that it was there! I love Abuelo's! 12/21/21
I love Mexican food and Abuelo's delivers. Food served supper hot right off of the grill or skillet. Adult size portions, attentive servers, delicious food. Very clean and professional establishment.
We had Appetizers and drinks. Service was outstanding.
