Wayside is a small restaurant specializing in "country cooking" with items such as fried chicken, burgers and fried fish. They have a plethora of sides to compliment any of their main dishes.I ordered the fried fish at my last visit and a friend ordered the fried chicken breast. We both ordered collards, mac and cheese and cole slaw as the sides.I was expecting a fresh fish portion but instead received two pieces of what can only be called "fish sticks". It looked like something I could have gotten from the frozen food section of my grocery store. The tartar sauce was homemade however and very tasty as was the cocktail sauce - both come with the dinner. The collards were delicious and seasoned just right - mac and cheese and cole slaw were also very well made. My friend's fried chicken was cooked to perfection.The staff were pleasant enough although obviously impatient when taking orders - even though we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time.The sides alone were good enough that I'll actually go back just to order those alone.The experience was ok enough to give a second try when we want a quick dinner to take home.
The fried chicken is delicious and the green and onions rings are good too! They use to have milk shakes made by hand with milk and ice cream but sadly no more - but still it's a great place to get fried chicken!
I have been driving by this restaurant for over 15 years…on my way to work! Every time I’m waiting at the light I look over here and think to myself..”I should stop there”…” They always look busy, their chicken must be good!” I’m always in a hurry to get there…and finally I made it here!! I was not disappointed!! I couldn’t wait til lunch time at work to try out this long awaited chicken…I ate one right in the parking lot!The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside! I even ate the skin…knowing it’s not “healthy”…but it was delicious! I can’t wait to try the sides. NOW…I hope it’s easy to get back on the main road (JP) and get my butt to work! Y’all enjoy <3
This is this best little place!! Still quality cooked chicken and burgers for the beef lover... So love this place thanks for so many years of great food ?
Chicken were amazing but the mash potato was a bit off.
I was new in the area and the menu had to take some time to digest. Would be great if the menu could be simplified.The chicken was marinated in a similar saltish seasoning as KFC, smells like KFC as well. However the fry of the chicken was more on the lighter side with lesser batter that builds the "crunch".However, something to note about was the marinate thoroughness of the chicken. 2/3 piece of the chicken was well marinated. However, not the 1 piece that felt tasteless and bland.The marinating process could have been done by hand which explains. But something worthy to note.The soft bread was a nice touch, maybe a light toast with salted butter would be greater.
My husband saw reviews and wanted to try the chicken, so we did. We both concluded that the people giving rave reviews had to have previously eaten the absolute worst chicken ever, because this was the worst chicken we've ever eaten. The skin was tough and tasted mediocre at best, the hush puppies were almost tasteless, the tarter sauce was yellow and tasted like mustard, the mashed pot w/gravy tasted nothing like mashed potatoes, and the mac & cheese may as well have been plain macaroni noodles. The young man taking orders had the personality of a brick, almost as if we were an imposition. What a total disappointment and waste of $17. Never again. P.S. I changed to 2 stars because the fountain water was great. Didn't taste any chlorine.
Fried chicken was fantastic, kind of reminded me of home cooking. Chicken was crispy, tender, and too greasy.
Fantastic fried chicken! Service is fast and the food is delicious. Lots of options on the menu, but the chicken is the best reason to visit. The eight piece box is a great deal. The sides are also very tasty. The prices and food are great! What more could you ask for?
