The drink menu is INCREDIBLE. Very crafty, creative, flavorful, and interesting drinks. Definitely the best cocktail menu I have seen they use very high quality ingredients. The food was alright, it was plated very well and the presentation was on point. The food just didn’t live up to the presentation. Overall I will definitely come back here for drinks, but most likely not food.
Chef needs to be told the location of salt and pepper. He also needs to be reminded that food is supposed to have flavor in it. Good service, staff was pleasant the place was cute and welcoming. But the food was completely tasteless. Don’t waste your time here. If you want to run an upscale restaurant, please offer the value what the customer pays.
This is a new restaurant in Cville, securing the space formerly held by the Tin Whistle, across the street from the Police Station on Market St.A significant renovation has turned the indoors into a Swedish-themed space that is bright and open with a bar and about 6-8 tables, and the courtyard now boasts a large covered area with seating and a bar. Its quite pleasant and fresh. The menu offers a number of interesting appetizers, soups, salads, bowls, sandwiches and main plates, and they incorporate an eclectic selection of locally sourced, organic, vegan and gluten-free offerings like Virginia trout, cauliflower sandwiches, baked ricotta, grits, local chicken, and chickpea fritters. The bar is not extensive, but definitely capable, and offers a good number of specialty cocktails, beer, cider and a wonderful wine list. Chris, the bar mManager, and Jacob the very capable bar tender, are superbly friendly, knowledgeable and great ambassadors for the establishment. I had one of the best Negroni's I've ever had.I recommend reservations, and especially on weekends!
Delightful food and space. Not really a drinker but would definitely come here for drinks as well. Great for a lunch if looking for healthy American food. Parking garages nearby on Market and Water street, and, with the Downtown Mall so close, it's a great location.
Somewhat disappointing, was hoping to really like this place. Might have been because I went at lunch. Dinner may have been more impressive. Will update my review if I go for dinner.Salmon burger was heavily oversalted and the sauteed spinach wasn't... sauteed? (Maybe I missed the description that it was actually just raw spinach with oil... it actually didn't taste bad it, just wasn't sauteed) The martini wasn't bad- but I was expecting better. The carrot cake was decent.
First stop in Charlottesville for a weekend stay. Sat at the bar w/ my wife. Our bartender was extremely talented and friendly, forgot his name unfortunately. The drinks were really creative and excellent, above and beyond there. We ordered a snack board to start which was great, sourced locally. The biggest surprise was the dinner, I had the open face braised/shaved lamb sandwich and it was possibly the best sandwich I've had in my life and I'm 39. At least top 3. We didn't come across any place nearly as enjoyable as Tonic in the remainder of our stay. STOP BY!
Just wanted to let you know that your drinks are awesome. I had some a while back with maple syrup. The assistant manager did not know that we have maple syrup here in Virginia. Highland County is famous for their maple syrup. In fact they have a festival this weekend in Monterey. Anyway, your establishment should buy local and get their maple syrup from Virginia! Anyway I promised to mention this when Highland Syrup was available.
The food was delicious and the outdoor seating is fantastic, including heat. The staff was very friendly. I recommend some way of ordering electronically rather than having to enter the restaurant to do so. So enjoyed the appetizer menu and the option to order that whole menu. Well presented and delicious.
Nancy calls me on the phone “Allan we must go to this restaurant I just passed by-tonight! “ Now that may not sound alarming to some but we NEVER go ‘out’ to restaurants these days or hardly ever. Well, it turned out to be the right move as Tonic is exceptional! A great mix of DIY ordering, unique menu, friendly service, and casual yet classy feeling overall. Go!
Had a great time, well constructed cocktails, attentive masked service. Try the hot toddy french press, perfect for two.
