Wonderful place for great food and cocktails. Amazing staff, will absolutely visit again when in Charlottesville.
While walking the area looking for a decent cocktail bar, I specifically sought The Fitzroy out, as I heard from friends about it and thought what I heard was positive, so I wanted to try it. When I got there, around 5:30PM or so, they were about 1/3 full, so not busy at all and I got a decent seat at the bar. The bartender was quick to give me a menu and take my order, but wasn’t interactive at all; in fact, the only time I saw him was when he gave me my drink and then to cash me out after I drank it. They had an interesting menu and I probably would’ve gotten a snack, if he was around to ask. To be fair, he was the only bartender, but again, they weren’t busy. The place looks really nice inside, historic, like everything else in this area. The vibe was energetic for the crowd that was in there and the front was open to the outside seating, which looked great too. I wasn’t very impressed overall, even though my drink was good, it wasn’t very welcoming and I reached out to the friend who had been here previously and asked why they recommended this place and they reminded me that they didn’t and they experienced the exact same vibe and issue (and these are industry folks). So, I can’t say I’ll be back… seems to be a management issue. In fact, I hit a few places on the Downtown Mall over a couple of days and they all were cold, bland and not very good with the customer service. Stick to Main St, so many great places and much better service up there!
The food and drink was delicious but honestly the service was outstanding. I showed up with my two dogs, they were very gracious and let me sit anywhere outside and were so attentive not just to me but also my dogs - the weather was a little sketchy and my dogs were being weird and the lovely service team made them very comfortable and were so very kind to me.I’d come back for the Mac n cheese any time though!
We had a wonderful, wonderful meal at “The Fitzroy” after my daughter’s UVA graduation! We had a reservation for 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 22, 2022 - their first seating time. The menu items offered for this special event were each exceptional - plenty of variety for our party of six. Our gluten-free person was so excited by the risotto. I was told the fried oysters were great, the crab cakes were delicious, the goat cheese and fig bruschetta was fantastic, etc. The seasoning of each of the dishes was impeccable! We were fortunate indeed to have Amanda L. as our server: she was friendly, interested, attentive and exceptional! Our table gave us plenty of room to feel like the place was ours; the cool darkness was such a relief after one of the hottest graduation days ever. Also, two months earlier, I had a need to communicate with the restaurant about my credit card company changing on me, and Rich Ridge responded to my email so clearly and completely - I was so impressed and appreciative of that level of customer service.
They were able to fit us in late one night and it was the perfect ending to my birthday weekend. I truly appreciated the wonderful service from our waitress and the bartender. Food was delicious as always and so were the drinks. Love this restaurant and late night bar!
We celebrated daughter's birthday with a family dinner. Staff were super accomodating, welcoming and friendly. Burger was top notch. Other guests were happy with their dinner choices as well, steak frites. I had the Majestic cocktail and it was perfectly done.
We had a GREAT time here! It was pretty busy and looked like we couldn’t get in but the host (I believe the owner) got us a table very quickly! He was very friendly.Our drinks were well worth the price and the food came out very quickly! Our server (I believe named Cara) was WONDERFUL!! She was funny, friendly, and went out of her way to give us some local vineyards to visit. She even came back to our table because she forgot one that she wanted to recommend!15/10 experience!! SO happy we chose to dine here!
Great restaurant with a good atmosphere, fantastic food and excellent drinks. Crispy short rib roll were delicious as an appetizer. The Fitzroy burger with added bacon was cooked perfectly and was not a grossly oversized portion. The house old fashioned was good and I like that they use syrup instead of sugar. The spiced pear mule was fantastic and I recommend that for anyone. Overall a great experience and restaurant that I will return to
Great food, drinks, and service! Everything tasted fantastic! We couldn't have been more satisfied. We'll will certainly be back.
Wonderful staff! We had the grilled Romaine Salad with tofu. Delicious. The hand cut fries and wine menu was great too.
