Beautiful grounds. Gorgeous building. History in every corner. The James Monroe room was in the Manor House, yet you enter it from the outside, giving the room privacy but keep this in mind if it is raining or cold outside. The room is spacious and comfortable, but because it is such an old room (historical) there are limitations that are beyond the hotel’s reach, like a smaller bathroom, not enough room for luggage, not enough electronic charging ports, etc. In general, the comforts offered by more modern hotels.

While I haven’t had the pleasure of being an overnight guest at The Clifton, they were friendly and responsive throughout storm Frida’s power outage *catastrophe*. My entire family was effected and were unsure if a hotel would be necessary considering we had no heat during the recent low temperatures. I wouldn’t hesitate to book a stay with them after being in contact with their staff. In fact, a staycation is already in the works for late 2022!Cheers to their incredible level of service.

The Clifton is such an amazing place to stay! It has so much character and the staff is incredible.

Once again the Clifton Inn provided a beautiful dinner for the 3 of us. Incredible food, great bartending, Caroline is a great waitress. I will miss the Inn when I return to NJ. Thank you.

Reserve a table on the veranda if you can.Very well prepared food and efficient service. Popular but not crowded.

Very charming, service was great. Great photo opportunities.

great sommelier and beverage program

I've been dying to stay at the Clifton Inn for years and it did not disappoint. Since this was our 1st time, we took advantage of the Loyalty package which is the best deal around - full breakfast, dinner, wine, and a welcome plate. I decided to upgrade our stay to one of the loft Cottages for more room. It was super quaint mixing old-world charm with midcentury modern decor. I think we took advantage of the entire property -- pool, drinks at the bar, breakfast, and dinner. We even took a hike around the property. On our first night, a big storm knocked out the power for appx 10 hours. I could tell the staff was being tested by unhappy guests due to a power cut but the day/evening manager (Michael) kept his cool. It amazes me how mean people can be to service staff - it was out of their control people! We were given flashlights and updates throughout the evening. The food here is also top-notch! Service staff were knowledgeable about the menu and provided great advice. I had the bone marrow appetizer followed by the Halibut (cooked perfectly!) and my husband enjoyed the New York Strip which was also tasty. Overall I would recommend the Clifton Inn over and over again and I will be back.

We were celebrating an anniversary and wanted a convenient getaway. Tried The Clifton for the first time. The staff were friendly at check-in. Our loyalty rate package included dinner and a full breakfast. The food was excellent and the service was satisfactory. The room furnishings are eclectic for a historic building. The mattress was firm and comfort appreciated. The amenities were as described on the website.

Very disappointing dinner experience. Prix fixe menu at $69. Pear and arugula salad had very little pear, 2 pecans. Steak had gristle. Service was very slow, so main course wasn't served hot. barely 3 oz. wine per served a $18 per 'glass'. Lovely setting, but apparently a long way from 'recovery' (Covid related). Would recommend finding somewhere else for dinner.
