For the price I honestly was expecting more, but they did give us a birthday present which was nice (volcano cake with vanilla ice cream).
Ten is an enigma. The food here would be considered very good if the place were located in New York or LA. In Charlottesville, VA it is downright exceptional. To find stuff like ankimo (monkfish liver) and perfect Santa Barbara uni in a rural southern college town is crazy. But we did. We ordered a ton of food and it was all good to excellent. Even the green tea mochi dessert. Best Iâve ever had. My only food related complaint was that the chu toro was really no more than solid blue fin tuna - without the fat content to qualify for the âtoroâ designation. So why not a glowing (pun intended) recommendation? Because the place is so [email protected]?%#Â¥ dark that we couldnât make out our food! When I brought it to the attention of the server, she agreed! Thatâs it! No offer to enhance the lighting. We ate our entire meal under the glow of my cell phone flashlight! I seriously could not have identified the fish without it! Dining on sushi is such a visually aesthetic experience but you would think the chefâs here were ashamed of their creations. At one point another diner came to our table to ask me to turn my flashlight off. I thought I was getting punked! Anyway, Ten has great food but itâs no place to take your parents or anyone who actually cares to see what they put in their mouth.
Food was fantastic but service was horrible. We sat for long stretches and no explanation of food served. Have not had that poor service anywhere in a long time.
Ten is always very good, a family favorite for birthdays & special occasions, and this last visit was no exception: great sake & drinks, & many varied cooked & raw dishes⦠there was lots of sharing, & we all had a wonderful time! Thanks, Jack! thanks kitchen/floor teams! Weâll keep coming back!

The food was really good! Our server was so kind & great, but unrelated to her service, the restaurant was pretty slow. Food took a while to come out after ordering. It was worth it though! Our sushi was excellent, so were the chicken skewers. Iâd skip edamame next time and try something else.
