Our family ate here this evening and it was just ok. It took about 15-20 minutes before the guacamole came out. Then another 20-25 minutes before our entrees started to come out. I got part of mine, then a few minutes later my mother-in-law got hers, then a few minutes later my wife got part of her meal, but it wasn’t correct. Then a few minutes later she got the rest of hers with the corrections. At that point, we had been there for almost an hour with our 4 month old son, and were about ready to leave, so we just ate part of our food and then took the rest to go. Most Mexican restaurants around here serve the entrees within 5-10 minutes, so waiting 45-50 minutes before all of our food was ready was not a lot of fun. The food was ok, but definitely not worth the wait. It seemed like our waitress was serving a lot of other tables and did not have much help. It also just doesn’t really feel like a very fun atmosphere. There are 10-15 other Mexican restaurants in the area, so I’m not sure that we will come back.
They say good service is hard to find and at Plaza Azteca-that is true. Our server took about 8 minutes to come to the table after we were seated. We knew to get our entire order in immediately because who knew when he would return. He never came to check on us after we received our order. I had to go find him to pay the bill. The food is very good. Very. When my husband took our son to the bathroom, he said the entire wait staff was sitting at the bar-including ours. I’ve worked hard my whole life and I can tell you this-I don’t feel sorry or sympathetic for anyone who doesn’t come to work to do the job for which they are paid. We won’t be coming back.
Delicious food, great staff. Drinks are fantastic. Highly recommend. Prices are reasonable. Aesthetically this is a very pleasing restaurant. Super convenient location.
The chips and salsa were really good here - warm, thick, and salsa had a nice level of heat. Those, and the Pepsi, was the best part of the experience. We ordered street tacos, based on the less than favorable reviews of this place…figured food truck fare is hard to get wrong….I was wrong….took forever to get the food….the shells were fine, the taste of the beef was good, pork a little bland….but the meat was cold….the salsas were ok, but the meat was cold….our server (anonymous because he never shared his name) was busy with large table orders, and was polite and tried to be attentive…but the meat was cold. So, on a not super crowded Tuesday, they hit the average rating bar for us. After driving by this place for a while, we now can say we ate there….
Our food was really good and I had a great margarita. Only negative I can mention is that our table was wobbly. It is difficult to enjoy conversation, food and drink while your table is constantly shifting back and forth. This was our first time eating here and we would still come back. :)
10/10 recommend. Food, service, music. Our waiter Carlos was super attentive and provided us with excellent service. The food was the best we’ve had in Charlottesville. Fresh, tasty, perfect temp. Definitely coming back.
Delicious!!! Everything came out quick and fresh! And the waitress was really nice! This is the second time we have been here now and we have enjoyed everything we have eaten so far!!
The food was FANTASTIC!! The prices are reasonable. We were 2 adults and 2 kids, we ordered 2 meals and guacamole, we all ate a lot and still had enough leftovers to eat again the next day.Their guacamole is amazing! We also had some leftovers, and the next day was still delicious, the avocados did not turn dark at all.The reason for the 4 stars was the service. Was super slow, we got there at 5:15 pm on a Saturday, there were only a few tables with clients, the food took approximately 50min to come, and when you have a 3-year-old and a 9-month-old waiting that long for the food was a little stressful. And when we were done and the kids were ready to leave it took them a while to bring the check. But the food is great! Super worth it!
Tonight was not the best experience at Plaza Aztecs. Food was mediocre (chicken chorizo was dry and overcooked, and steak burrito was like someone took a well done steak and wrapped it whole in a tortilla!) .. the service was sub par. Server took a water glass from one guest in our party, refilled it, and returned it to the other guest! Heating seemed not to work, or management doesn’t want it warm enough to be comfortable. Probably the serving staff are too cold to perform at their best.
Nice selection of flavorful entres. We have always had good service. We have not been here as much since covid because there is a Mex place much closer to us we get takeout from. Azteca had the strongest margaritas of any Mex place we have been to and we have been to alit.
