Incredibly cool and fun atmosphere. The sake variety offered a diverse array of tastes. Bad baby Is fantastic and very versatile (could easily see it used in a number of different cocktails in addition to being fantastic on its own). Serenity now is also quite lovely.Robin makes a badass sake mule! Can’t wait to come back!
Enjoyed the Sake flight! I would recommend checking it out, especially since they brew it themselves. Food was delicious as well!
Shortly after arriving in Charlottesville, we headed to North American Sake Brewery for dinner. We shared a bottle of their limited release of Moon Leap Sparkling Junmai Daiginjo Sake. Our server Toni has a warm, friendly, and energetic personality and beautiful smile. For starters, we shared Veggie Dumplings, Inari, and Cali Sushi Board. The Veggie Dumplings consisted of six steamed dumplings filled with edamame, garlic, ginger, and mixed vegetables served with a citrus ponzu sauce. The Inari consisted of three seasoned tofu pouches stuffed with sushi rice, drizzled with sweet soy sauce, and garnished with sesame seeds. The Cali Sushi Board consisted of ten maki rolls made of crab, avocado, and cucumber. We didn't like how they were served chilled as they came right from the refrigerator. Among the three appetizers, our favorite was the Inari. For dinner, we shared Chicken Teriyaki and Momo Chicken Ramen. The Chicken Teriyaki consisted of grilled chicken seasoned with salt and pepper and cooked with bell peppers, onions, and carrots in a teriyaki sauce, garnished with sesame seeds, scallions, our signature 3 G's aioli, and crispy garlic served over a bed of sushi rice. The Momo Chicken consisted of curly ramen noodles cooked with chicken thigh in a flavorful shio broth topped with shredded carrots, leeks, beansprouts, soft boiled egg, scallions, sesame seeds, and nori. For dessert, they have mochi ice cream (in green tea, mango, vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry) and Strawberry Mousse Cheesecake with Mango Mochi (instead of Chocolate Mochi). The portion size was small but smooth, silky, and delicious. The mochi was served frozen and thus, hard to share.
This is the most amazing place! Award winning sake, and incredible food! Definitely try the sparkling sake, and the dumplings!
A nice place with good Ramen, decent sushi, and great sake. But check before you go, seems to be regularly closed for private events which can be frustrating. Worth it when it is open to the public.
AVOID this place at all costs…. I overheard the chef complain that all they have in the kitchen is a single hot plate and the place is dirty. The sad excuse for Japanese food I got was undercooked dumplings (raw in the middle) with sauce that tasted sour im guessing since it was sitting out for weeks! I saw hundreds of the sauces already in to go containers just sitting out in the open. The poke bowl i ordered barely had any actual fish in it and for the price- WOW just ridiculous. I would suggest you go to Poke Bowl at barracks road. Now don’t even get me started on the sake….. it’s like pruno - horrible jail wine. Not to mention there is not a single Japanese person who even works here??? Cultural appropriation much???
Very nice hole in the wall style location. Great food and drink, very laid back staff, and there are cool events that happen there all the time. The comedy show they had last time we were there was a blast.
I love the sake as well as the food. I try to visit as often as I’m in town, but I also have the sake delivered to my house out of state. It’s always delicious, especially Big Baby and Sweet Agony. Highly recommend.
Food was not good, sake was worse. Service was also very slow and you had to go up to the bar to order. I went there once and got a slushee that was twice the size I got last time I went. How are they gonna charge me the same amount for a way smaller slushee? They were also out of a lot of things on the menu. Don’t put them on the menu then.
The Sake Brewery has the most amazing, kind, hardworking staff I've seen in Charlottesville! They have the best ramen, poke bowls, and dumplings in this city! Their sour sake is unbelievable. And they host comedy nights twice a month! They have a lovely fire pit outside. And a quaint atmosphere for date nights or family nights. If you're traveling from out of town or are a local, this is a stop you will not regret!
