I don't know why they have bad reviews. I've always loved going here. It's delicious. Even the gazpacho is super fresh. I love the atmosphere and the food.

A perfect pairing with a visit to Monticello. Sorry not sorry but any of the reviews stating it is a tourist trap or a that the food is anything but fantastic must be bitter with negative attitudes. Tourist trap? Honestly they are working with what they have got and are linking to the history of the area. I see nothing wrong with that. Also, there are stores there but not one tried to upsell us into shopping at them. The food? It is absolutely delicious. You get your first round buffet style and then can get more of anything you'd like. The price is a little high depending on how much you eat but considering they only serve for a few hours and that the food is absolutely delicious I think it is worth it. Drinks and dessert are charged in addition to the meal but the prices of those items are not overly high. The staff was as friendly, helpful, and accomodating as could be from the moment we were greeted to the moment we said goodbye. I absolutely recommend!

This is definitely a tourist trap. This is a buffet, where they bring you more food after your initial plate that you make yourself. The pricing would be somewhat okay if the food was actually good. They charge for drinks and dessert, so it's not an all inclusive buffet. We were with older members of our family, which they stated they liked the food. However, the rest of us did not like most of the food. These were good: Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, ice cream, peach cobbler, root beer float. The pulled pork was okay. Not good: baked chicken, green beans, black eyed peas, rolls, biscuits, corn bread. There was other food on the buffet line that we didn't even try as it did not look good. The staff was friendly and the waitress was attentive, which is why this a two star review and not one. The atmosphere was somewhat interesting, but the food ruined it. They bait you into walking through the stores on site if you have children to get some chocolate candy at the end.

Wow was a great place to stop for food. It's like you go back in time to 1784. The settings, building, the decor inside all are in the 1700's time. The smell of the southern food is so amazing. You will be eating on the period ware: Pewter plate and mugs. We found this by accident a few years back and I have been coming back every chance I can. Last year we drove from Virginia Beach to Michie for lunch for my birthday. (2.5 hrs drive) That's how good the food is.The fried chicken is to die for. So so good. The stewed Tomatoes is what my honey come here for. So so delicious. The Blacke-eye Peas, beans and beets are all so good. A must stop for lunch (They only open for lunch) if you are in the area. The gift shops are great to visit and we always pick up so great gift ideas. The walk between the gift shops are also very nice. The gift shop in the bottom of the hill has a working big mill has lots of good gifts. You and your family will enjoy the experience there.

We love ❤️ Michie Tavern, been going there over 15 years! Great food and friendly staff. They also have tavern tours and great gift shops!

This frozen in time piece of pure American history is the finest establishment I have ever had the pleasure of being at. If you are a patriot, love home cooked meals, rich history, and a joyful atmosphere then this is where you want to be!

Y’all, if you have the opportunity to eat here DO IT!!! The food is excellent, staff is incredible and the atmosphere is one of a kind. Keep in mind that they do close early when planning your visit.

Excellent service and food today for their brunch. Kathy (?) kept our plates full. Enjoyed the best fried chicken I've ever tasted. Enjoyed the historic setting and the buildings. A must see in Charlottesville.

This place is a gem in Charlottesville. The most friendly staff I've ever had the pleasure to be served by. If your craving fried chicken, this is your C'ville stop.

Super cool historic building (circa 1784!) that was purchased in 1927, disassembled, and moved from Buck Mountain Road to it's current location, 17 miles away, at the foot of Carter’s Mountain, one-half mile from Monticello, the famous home of Thomas Jefferson. The buffet style restaurant, serving traditional southern Colonial fare, is only open for lunch from 11:30 to 3pm and a bit on the expensive side, for what it is. The food, as a whole, was good .. the fried chicken was very good (crispy, tender and moist) and Michie Tavern's famous biscuits are not to be missed. The smoked pulled pork and baked chicken were both only okay. The sides varied ... green beans were okay, stewed tomatoes were very good, good mashed potatoes with meh gravy, black eyed peas were a pleasant surprise, beets were alright, and the vegetable soup was good. The staff and service was great.Strictly as a food destination ... Michie Tavern misses the mark a bit, but this is a place that must be viewed in it's entirety ... if you're in Charlottesville and you like/appreciate history, Michie Tavern is definitely worth the stop ... an awesome, historic building with amazing history, decent to good food (stick with the fried chicken, skip the baked chicken & bbq), and very good service from a friendly, attentive staff.
