I've been coming here for years when I'm in the area for work. Always fresh and always delicious. If you want sushi, highly recommend.
Coming from cities where authentic sushi is commonly available, this is not what I expected, especially for the price. The fish was very fishy, the dumplings - which I see people rate 5 stars - are not of the quality I was expecting for this level of reviews. I’m so glad the restaurant is busy and that people like it. Give it a try and see for yourself :)
BEST RESTAURANT EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Says Leo (7yo)As parents that love sushi, this is a great family restaurant. Cozy with great service, they do a great job with a very traditional sushi menu. There are some funky rolls. Don’t expect gourmet fancy new age omíkase or rotating fish specials. The menu is 99% static. And they do each item very well. Great miso! Leo ate 10 bowls one night.
Delicious! Portion sizes for dinner almost guarantee leftovers. Good prices and sushi was so good my husband order another roll after already eating three.
We have been going to Kabuto at least every month for the past 12 years. I’m not a sushi/sashimi fan, so I can’t comment on that, but I love their sweet potato roll, California roll, and their tempura. The fried rice is excellent. The chicken hibachi is outstanding as well as many of their apps. But hands down, they have the best BEST miso we’ve had in town. It quickly became our family’s “go-to” comfort food that we order every single time. We’ve tried several other places in town and they’re either too salty, not enough umami, or too watery. Kabuto’s is the best! For those complaining about their online presence, no, they may not be very tech savvy with websites but I am not eating the website, I’m eating their food. Personally I’d rather they focus on food and not some flashy site. It’s a family run business, not some national chain.
I loved this place. It's small, quaint with fresh fish ,some inventive rolls and good miso. Wish I had tried their seaweed salad, but the Uni was fresh, which is a rarity in Virginia.
Kabuto delivers an authentic and delicious sushi experience. I have not tried the teppanyaki, so this review covers sushi/sashimi only. First, the menu offers a wide variety of options, including uni, aji, toro (in season), live scallop and all the traditional selections, including octopus, ikura, hamachi and much, much more — plus a huge variety of rolls. The quality of the fish is outstanding. Second, the pieces are perfectly sized — not the ridiculously huge slabs that sushi ignoramuses seem to prefer. (Sushi is meant to be bite-sized, it's not like eating a steak.) Third, the service here is truly gracious, whether you are eating in or taking out. Fourth, I applaud Kabuto for not selling out to the online delivery services, which take all the profits and disappoint customers and businesses alike. This is sushi as it was meant to be, and the same quality of service you would find in a fine sushi restaurant in Tokyo. Bravo!
Fantastic. Everything was top notch. So glad to find good uni.
Literally the smallest sushi I have ever ordered for $23 in my life. The staff was very rude and practically threw my food at me. My 4 year old son was present and they definitely did not take that into consideration when yelling at me. When questioned about the customer service the staff became frustrated and stated that they would call the police on my son and I. I was disgusted with how they treated my family. Due to my unsatisfactory experience I requested a refund and was told no. I loved this place about 4 years ago but after this experience I can understand why no other customers were present. Best of luck to their business however I will not be returning EVER AGAIN.
We were visiting Charlottesville for the night and ended up here for dinner. It was close to the hotel. SO glad we came! It hit the spot. A delightful meal and friendly efficient service. This spot is run well and the food is made even better.
